I was browsing another forum and saw a thread complaining that with Carbon's new free odds calculator, players edge was gone and it wasn't fair. One idiot even went so far as to suggest that his rake get lowered...lol. below is my reply to this. Tell me what YOU think.
"Its kind of stupid for people to say the new odds calculator is helping the fish, and it's no fair. Boo Hoo! You guys have been using mining software for years against these players never ONCE questioning the fairness of that. Never once has anyone said "Since I'm using PokerTracker and it gives me such a huge edge, maybe we should LOWER the rake for the people that don't have it." And you donks want to talk about fair. Give me a break!
Since Black Friday, there aren't many recreational players left. The day of someone plopping $20 on Stars to mess around is gone, bc all the advertising for these sites disappeared once networks stopped showing poker programming after Black Friday. With how complicated it is to deposit from the US nowadays, anybody who takes the time and effort to deposit has put some time and effort into doing so. Its not just "I'm watching Poker After Dark and saw a FT commercial, lemme grab my credit card and play." Not anymore. Black Friday ruined that. So the purely recreational player is gone. The next demographic in the "easiest player to make some money from" is the person who's really interested in poker, has some knowledge, but isn't YET playing online for whatever reason.
There are alot of players nowadays who are on the fence about depositing at all, myself included. It's a gray area legally, and after the FT scandal, people are worried that if they deposit 500, the DOJ may shut down the site tomorrow, or the site might mess up theire money, ala FT.
So the players that deposit are most likely PLAYERS. At the very least they know some poker, and are commited enough to it, to risk losing losing their money in a scandal. These people are not completely clueless, and if they even read one book, or visited one forum, they know people are using HUD's. And likely they know enough to realize, that without one, they are at a SEVERE disadvantage. And with the current state of online poker, very few people are willing to spend a few hundred dollars on software to use on a site that may not be there tomorrow. So they don't deposit bc, while they may have some money to deposit, and are willing to jump through hoops to do it, at this point investing another few hundred seems like a gamble.
So the strictly recreational player is gone, and the semi-serious novice is scared to deposit bc they know they're gonna get eaten alive by the people using HUD's. Who wins here? You want to chase away thousands of players in order to maintain ur edge? Your content to be up against only the players who are serious enough to have a HUD? Your PLAYING with only ppl who have HUD's NOW!!!! If you think this is such a bad thing then maybe poker ISN'T ur thing bc u don't recognize a +EV situation when u see it.
Look, even with a HUD, recreational players don't know what to do with the numbers. They may THINK they do, but they don't. The sharks already have HUD's. And now the novice, semi-serious people won't be afraid to put some money down and play. The player who is on his game, studies, and knows what the numbers mean is still going to be at an advantage. The cream always rises to the top. This levels the playing field, and once the field is equal, the good players are still going to prosper.
Now, if you find that your losing, maybe your not as good as you think you are. Maybe you need to work on your game. Numbers are just numbers if you don't know what to do with them. Why chase away potential money? Look at the site traffic on stars on this day 4 years ago, and compare it with traffic at ALL sites combined now. Can we afford to chase away players? Or is the smarter play here to do ANYTHING we can to make the amateurs feel secure enough to risk some money, and being satisfied that our game is on-point enough to still prosper?
If you can't see, the clear answer here, then poker isn't ur game. Go get some steroids and play baseball if you need that much of an edge.
There is a very limited amount of money in the poker economy now. Ask any pro. Anything we can do to encourage new players is a positive thing. So stop crying. I hope a talented newcomer comes in and takes ur money bc you've become so dependant on a HUD that you haven't worked on your poker game. I don't see Doyle Brunson say he needs a HUD. Phil Ivey doesn't sit out a live tourney bc he can only play with a HUD. Durr still manages to make money live even without a HUD. Johan Santana can still pitch a no-hitter against players using roids. That is bc in a level playing talent always shines through.
In the time it took you to type that silly post about getting ur rake lowered, you could've read a strategy article."
