What's your take on GG's ELO rating system?

GGPoker has an ELO rating in place for their spin games.

ELO ratings can help to ensure that games are competitive and enjoyable for all participants.

And how does it do that exactly?
Since we can't select the opponents that we're going to be up against.

Worst case scenario - this only helps the sharks to identify fish even more easily, and terrify the fishes when they see that they are often against winning players.

I guess they might be targeting the serious 'spin' players from the less serious 'spin' players? Or maybe this is GGPoker's attempt to create more serious 'spin' players? Anyone's guess, I suppose.

Not everyone is up for an outside competition other than competing at the poker table...or am I missing something?

Perhaps it drives some players to play more games in hopes of improving their ELO rating? Who knows
