I have been playing at 888 for many years. Currently, my level is above 50, I don't remember exactly what it is. And although I didn't have a goal to increase my level quickly, it happened by itself. I was betting quite a bit on sports, almost every day, especially on weekends, and my level grew very quickly. However, I was not betting with my own money, i.e. not from my main account, but from my bonus account, where I had accumulated a significant amount of bonus funds. I won these bonus funds in daily SportsFan freerolls.

I am currently level 92. There doesn't seem to be any advantage in leveling up once you reach level 80. IIRC it took me about 2 months to advance from level 60 to level 80, playing 2c/5c NLH, but now I am above level 80 I mostly only play freerolls on 888.

The fastest way is not necessarily the cheapest. And it is certainly the riskiest.
See the challenges to level up. You have to log in every day to earn daily login points and spend money in the game.
For me, one of the fastest and lowest risk ways if you play well is Blasts. It will depend on your risk level. You can play on any one but if you play the highest ones you will complete the Play Poker challenge faster. And the play poker challenge added to the daily login challenge is enough to level up.
Today, 4 years after I started playing there, I'm level 81 but that's why I play very few cash games.
If you choose to play Blast, don't forget to register on the Leaderboard first. You have to play 10 games in a day and depending on your performance you can win tickets. I already beat the $1 - $2 table once and won 25 $2 tickets. I made good money at the time.

888 could give, for example, a monthly tournament of 20K for those who have level 150 and +

I left a lengthy response on here last week.
To summarize it:
There's really no value in 'levelling up', those two monthly freerolls you'll qualify for (the $5k & $10k) are both garbage - - TONS of entrants, TERRIBLE structure.... complete BINGOFEST with a really flat payout structure so you end up basically winning pennies in it. It's not worth it.
Don't bother to change what you would normally be playing on there. If you play 'anything' the level will go up.
fwiw, I think BLAST games would be the worst method to use (highest variance, smallest margin if you're even winning)
Low stakes cash game would be best (easiest, way less risk to losing any of your bankroll and you actually might just gradually increase your bankroll. Even though the rake is ridiculous, the players are even worse. It is the one site that is still filled with weak, passive limping calling stations who'll sit with 40-60bb's and won't reload to 100bb until they're depleted down to 0bb. And there's LOTS of them (often it'll be 50%+ of the players seated on the tables up til' 10nl).
Start off at 2nl & work your way up. Once you obtain those 'levels' you'll discover it was a wasted effort to get there and instead the effort to just find one format of the game and get better at it is so much more worthwhile.
OR you could go the MTT route but you will need a much bigger bankroll to sustain downswings (and that's even if you're a winning player in that format... think 100-200 buyins)
