The decline in popularity is explained by ill-conceived policies and inept management. PokerStars is getting worse every year. Personally, I don't play at PokerStars anymore since they stopped holding our freerolls. If their policy doesn't change, I think in 3-5 years this site will cease to exist.

Unfortunately, I, just a nobody micro player, have not deposited any money for quite a while.
The reason is more about the fact that my casino and bonuses don't work properly.
My PokerStars has not worked properly for so many years now, after uninstalling and reinstalling. I am sort of fed up.

I rarely play at PS but the ocassional freerolls..
Tried the SM Mystery bounty freeroll, got in the top 25 for the 11$ direct satty and looks like I'm gonna win a seat in one of the few really good MTTs left at PS.
and this time even mystery bounty. Love those

They used to have a system known as Frequent Player Points. If I recall, you could exchange these for freerolls, swag or even cash. There were bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels. They scrapped this literally overnight with no consultation. A lot of the big players were fuming.

It has its benefits. After winning the 11$ ticket it wasn't all too hard to win the seat.
They have megasatties with 100 tix gtd.

Its actually amazing, that this is only happening now, when the number of players on PokerStars has declined steadily for 14 years. Just like many other once popular sites like 888 Poker, partypoker and ACR Poker. But I guess, they have done a lot to avoid changing their flagship tournament to the "Sunday Half Million"

I think even if the sunday million went from 1 million to a 500,000 guaranteed tournament it would still be the best pokerstars offering in a while

It would still be a loss of prestige though, since its such a household name. So my guess is, that if the overlays continue, then we will see more satellites with overlays and/or free tickets or other similar attempts to prop up the Sunday Million.

I think that's just a sad indication of how much this site has declined each time it was sold..... in it's heyday with it's original owner
it was top notch, even though my personal fave was Full Tilt there's no denying PS was at the peak of the game.
Then it was sold to Amaya and the downslide started.... then it was sold to Flutter,
which isn't even a pure poker group it's also sports betting and casino focused so
the attention to their poker content just isn't there like before.
... yeah poker has declined but with GG kicking everyones ass it's clear players will come play.... if they were
smart they'd pay attention to what attracts players to GG and revamp their site before it's too late👍

Does anyone have the time to post the tournament lobbies of the two last SM tournaments? I want to see how large the overlay was.

Last Sundays tournament was a mystery bounty edition, so that might be why some regs avoided this one.

Yes like every other old site has declined. There is not a single site out there, which has been around for 20+ years, that has not started declining at some point.
At some point GG Poker will also start to decline, and maybe its peak has been reached already. So in 10-15 years we can most likely have the exact same discussion about GG Poker, and then the next site, and then the next.

Yes we can... sites do ebb and flow over time but PokerStars is in a self created death spiral, if it's still around in 5 years it will be because they pulled their head out of the sand and made the changes they need to make👍

Why is it any more self created than the similar decline on all the other sites? And why is PokerStars more likely to go away than sites with waaaaay less volume? From any sort of objective criteria a site like 888 is much more likely to be gone in 5 years, since almost no one play there already.

I don't think it's a "whose the worst" contest, this post is about PS. I don't think 888 or Party will be around long either.. I have no idea about sites I was never allowed to play on but I was able to be on PokerStars way back when and their software and customer service was top notch until it was sold to Amaya...., and it has only gotten worse under Flutter, poor management is absolutely self created, Acr for example at least tries to adjust with the times, PS does not, that's a problem lol

I took part in this tournament, winning a seat in an $11 satellite that guaranteed 100 seats.
I didn’t save the tournament lobby, but there were something like 9,207 entries.
I knocked out one player,
but I was just a little short of the stack to reach the prize places - the prize money started at 1511th, and I ended up with 1524th on the last chips.

This is not surprising, given their policy over the past few years. The decline in popularity is simply a consequence of their "great" work. I think it's only going to get worse from here, and frankly, PokerStars deserves it.

I think their promotion are getting worse each day and there are better rooms now. PS used to be a better room before poker Black Friday because it used to have big rivals (mostly FT). After BF, PS was the biggest room for many years and the promotions started to get worse and worse. At least now we have more and better options to play.
