So its essentially a combination of an MTT and sportsbetting. Not really all that usefull, if you ask me

Yes it is sportsbetting, because when your team lose, you lose your investment, just as in normal sportsbetting. The only difference is, that when your team win, your profit is automatically used for playing a more expensive tournament, than what you paid for. Personally I would rather keep the two things separate or not engage in sportsbetting at all. I dont really see the fun in playing a tournament for almost two hours potentially building a big stack and then get knocked out, because my team lost.

I See your reasoning but it's still not sports betting....
I merely get a discount when my nation's playing.
But I agree the fact that you get eliminated when your nations loses makes this way less attractive.
