This isn't going to be a very detailed post but I will do my best to try and put something together. .

It appears that ireland are about to pass through a bill that is going to absolutely ruin online poker for us.

Essentially the parts of the bill they are advocating that involves online poker is that a maximum spend of €10 per game will be implemented and at the same time the maximum winnings from that game can only be €3000.

Funnily enough in this new legislation, horse betting and sports betting will be unaffected whatsoever.

Pray for ireland please!

Sounds terrible. If this is passed, you definitely want to look at unregulated sites like ACR. I dont remember seeing irish people on pokerstars though, so where do you even play today?

This is potentially awful news, no wonder why so many talented irish poker players have relocated already. Prayers indeed.

I play on pokerstars still, there's still plenty of irish players on pokerstars.

At the moment all the regulated sites are available to us but should the bill pass through I would imagine we will have no options but play on unregulated sites if we wish to continue to play.

Ideally what we would like is for poker to be bunched in with sports betting and horse racing as the exemptions.

Obviously proposed by some idiot. It won't get anywhere due to the big money involved. This isn't another Black Friday a decade and more ago.

Hopefully the idiot doesn't stuff it in an anti-terror bill

That doesn't sound right. If this happens, many poker rooms will unfortunately ban Irish players. Good luck!

"Plenty" is perhaps an exaggeration. But I just opened the lobby of a random MTT, and out of 1.200 players 10 of them were in fact irish. So my memory was apparently not that good here :)

Oh man, this is rubbish news for Ireland and Irish poker. I hope it doesn't get passed and also that these nonsense ideas don't spread over the Irish Sea.

Its interesting how the government finds rules in different countries. The limitation of the stacks is curious. Its similar to the german strange rules. There are less freerolls possibilities and rake back is also not allowed because that could get you easy in the game. But because of the rules the german players have a massive disadvantage against other countries. I hope there will be some new rules which are better for players in germany. I hope for the ireland players it would be not those hard limit caps.

It's sad. It's very sad that laws are being passed that could make poker illegal. I hope everything goes well, but you should probably be prepared for the worst case scenario.

There are also some very curious things here! For example, slot machines are prohibited, but plush machines are allowed because they are considered "games of skill" and you can easily find them in shopping malls.

It is protection for the other gambling options. The thinking is if they block poker you will bet on racing and sports. I play poker because that involves me against others.
Betting on horses and sports is not the same sort of activity as poker, where you are in a mental contest against other people.

Horrible news for sure toots, we lost access to the main sites back in 2017, I don't play as much as I'd like anymore, ACR/BCP are the only sites that I occasionally play at now.

:(

You'd be surprised. There's big money is in the sports betting who will lobby hard to make this happen. Just look over here at the US, sports betting and online slots/online casinos are in more and more states, very little restriction on what these operators can offer and how much one can wager. Meanwhile regulated online poker is only in about 4 or 5 states.

I see there is a Pokerstars Ireland version of Pokerstars. We have a problem with Pokerstars only being allowed to use play chips here in the U.S.
