Does Niklas Astedt deserve the title of best poker player in the world?

His online crushing has been peerless for years (Lena900) but it has been his more recent move into the live game, particularly on the European Poker Tour where his all-round ability has come to the fore. Last year he cashed five times at EPT events coming second twice in the Barcelona and Prague high rollers. And, it should be said he has one of the best personalities, always appearing relaxed and with a smile on his face.

In terms of his productivity, at the just concluded EPT Paris he came 5th in the $25K high roller, then went out 12th in the Main Event from a field of 1606.

Just over 24 hours later, he was back online where he promptly took down another two titles on Sunday – the $5,200 Titans and then the $1,050 Sunday Supersonic.

Already ranked as one of the best online players with winnings passing the $22 million mark, his live tourney earnings have now jumped to $2 million. The beast mode consistency is another level.

His online tournament cashes are actually just $75k short of $25million.

2years ago, PocketFives had the #1 'Number One' competition, where 60 former number ones were set up against each other.
lena900 won, beating out Chris Moorman.

I think 'best all-round' player is misleading. Best nlhe tournament player would be more suiting. afaik, he doesn't play cash (~-$100k on Stars)

Today, I think it's very hard to find a better NLH mtt player than Michael Addamo.

Mofo has just won his 6th Super Millions title at GGpoker

for sure he is awesome 'but' the last I checked, he was -$1.899M (I don't recall how long ago that was now but today I noticed his stats. are now blocked on GG)
(650 games played, roi -14%, avg. bi. $9.5k, -$1,899,000)

Interesting stats on Addamo.

I spent a lot of last year watching him and rating him as virtually untouchable, there is no doubt that he was on an incredible heater, I realized his profile was lower this year but did not know he was down to any degree. Regarding Astedt, I just admire the consistency.

I also appreciate the 'high rollers' who though they play the high stakes also play the main events. That love of the game. Obviously Astedt is one of several such as Sam Greenwood, David Peters, Adrian Mateos etc. who do so regularly. There is an obvious argument too be made that investing time in high rollers is time better spent, but, I assume those guys still play the main events as they still thrill at negotiating through a much deeper field.

I believe all of the ones you've listed still put in full schedules during all of the online series and these days pokerstars seems to have one running every 2-to-3 weeks, lol. And they've been doing it since as long as I can remember... dating back to Fulltilt in 2007/2008.

Has Lena even played Triton SHRs?

I have to be honest I generally think the Elite Cash game players are significantly better poker players than Elite MTT players are. There's numerous occasions of Cash Game players winning in the toughest MTT fields on the planet, Doug Polk, Linus Loeliger Dan Cates and OTB come to mind. Very seldom save maybe someone like Addamo and Mikita Badziakouski will you see MTT players sit at a NL10K table or above and you'll almost never see them play Heads Up vs other elite players.

There does seem to be a group on High Stakes online regs who set themselves apart with how hard they grind on a day in day out basis and Lena is definitely one of them, Pads would be another but they have never entered the argument in my mind for the Best All-Around Poker player
