From Chamath Palihapitiya:

"Curious about AI’s impact on society? Look at online poker as an interesting, early window into the future. Why? Online poker is a multi billion dollar economy and will be worth exactly $0 over the next few years. The fall of this economy will be a harbinger of what’s possible as generalized AI advances are applied to the “low hanging fruit” markets. Agents are becoming smart enough - reasoning, memory, chain of thought - that poker playing agents will run over the human population in legal poker sites and will make money for their creators. But won’t these bots be stopped? These aren’t bots. They are agents - and will know how to lose certain hands, creating an illusion of normalcy. They will learn to “shear the sheep” vs “skin the sheep”. You can expect that online poker leaderboards will flip to names you’ve never heard of and those names won’t be real people but groups of programmers making money. I suspect that most people stop playing online for money pretty quickly and the economic value of this market implodes."

Poker rarely makes it into the mainstream media, but a Bloomberg article on Friday sent shockwaves through the poker community on Twitter. The story details the history and scale of a Russian bot farm, sparking a heated debate among poker professionals. An article titled "The Russian Bot Army Taking Over Online Poker" by Keith Kjell exposes the activities of Bot Farm Corporation, a group based in Omsk. The organization has tried to legitimize itself several times by selling bots to poker sites to maintain liquidity, and is now aiming to create a new model of rake-free poker in which players will play against bots controlled by casinos.PokerOrg Players Council member Joey Ingram wrote on X: "I can't believe these guys gave themselves away to Bloomberg... Incredible journalism." WPT Ambassador Tony Dunst called the article "disturbing reading."The scale of the operation was revealed through leaks on a Russian poker forum and Telegram. According to Bloomberg, the leaks describe about 600 users operating accounts in canada, China, india, Poland and sweden, using VPNs or local SIM cards to hide the true locations of their operators. The big twist in this story is that the Omsk group is now trying to legitimize themselves again. emoji_u1f92e.svg They want to create a new model of online poker, where players will play against bots of similar skill level. This will eliminate the rake, but will create a casino-like game, where players will play against the "house".

I've already suggested the idea of a poker console, with security devices so that it's not possible to access the programming.;)
Yeah because every recreational is obv willing to buy a whole console to be able to play a bit of poker 😅😅😅

But i love reading about ur so called ideas on this forum. Please never stop ok?

Of course, I do not exclude that this may be the case. But on the other hand, online poker is a multimillion-dollar business, and it seems to me that the main players in this market will not allow such a drop, as this business is their profit. I think there are many options. But it is obvious that there will be software products that will prevent situations when artificial intelligence plays poker instead of a real person :)

Collusion on the small sites is a bigger problem than people think -and bots are a bigger problem on the large sites than people think.

They are very difficult to detect, and there are more and more of them.

If they win against the population they are taking money out of the eco-system - which destroys the game in the long run. They are already good enough to beat recreational players (and have been for many years).

With AI, AGI, and ASI it will be something no 100% biological human can go up against and win.

We have to merge and integrate ourselves with computers to not be left behind by a new digital "species" with superior intellect. Or, maybe continue to play in a simulated reality like the matrix.

In my opinion, over the past few years, online poker has stopped gaining momentum and its popularity, in my opinion, is growing very slowly. Poker sites make decisions and leave certain regions around the world. Governments are adopting strict laws and licensing conditions, which has essentially made poker illegal in many places. Things are going so badly that, in my opinion, even without artificial intelligence, we will soon be playing only on small local projects at best.

Online poker is currently in a downswing and facing some variance compared to the Moneymaker poker boom nothing more.

Poker dying or kill poker. Please I've been hearing for 15+ years that poker is dying and gonna die that kinda talk makes freaking roflmfao. First it bots that were gonna kill poker NOPE. Then it was HUD's gonna kill poker NOPE. Then it was collusion NOPE. Then it was cheating NOPE. Then it was GTO NOPE. Then RTA NOPE. Now it's AI....anyone see a trend yet in the answers lol. The only way poker is dying completely is if the govt and banks make it so. Why?

Simple because the vast majority of us say 75-90%+ play for fun at micro/low stakes. As long as the govt lets us download the site, setup the account and we can still find banks that will process poker transactions we'll keep playing till we die. Humans after all are creatures of habit.

Also I doubt Govt's in the end will kill poker. I'll bet and shove all the money ALL-IN that they take it over and control it in the end. There is simply too much money in poker for them to destroy poker.

Cheers!!!

Even if these were popular enough to sell people probably would just use a second device to cheat with some form of screen scraping (Even if it's not running on the console)

It's an interesting and certainly worrying point of view in some ways. It's true that AI is advancing in leaps and bounds and has already demonstrated its ability to master complex games like poker. However, online poker platforms are actively working on measures to detect and prevent the proliferation of bots or advanced agents that alter the fairness of the game.
That said, your analysis of how AI can change the economic landscape of this and other markets is valid. Technology has always had the power to transform entire industries, and we may see significant changes in the future. Still, it's not certain that online poker will completely collapse, as human interaction and regulations will remain key factors in maintaining interest in the game.
We'll see how it evolves, but it's certainly a fascinating field to watch the impact of AI.

I honestly think that major pokerrooms are using AI one way or another to extract more profit from their users.

Where money is involved there will be those who will exploit loopholes to grab it.
Bots are just part of the evolutionary development of mankind.

its poker on steroids . ' good players' online have almost no chance to come out ahead at mid stakes and up .... and even strong players at micro stakes are likely to be eaten up by the rake .
