Hello,

Yesterday one of my friends won 800 usd on tournament. As I was watching that game live at my house he decided to send me 100 usd to my account as a gift.

I wanted to withdraw money and got this message:

"After a routine review of your latest withdrawal it has come to our attention that most of the funds that you withdrew came directly from a transfer received from another player on our site.

Our transfer tool is only meant to help players fund their accounts when they are unable to deposit with deposit options currently available to them. All funds added to your account via transfer must be used to play at our tables.

We are restricted by our license agreement with Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and this prevents us from being able to offer a real money transfer service for the purpose of withdrawing.

You should use a money transferring service outside of our site for transfers which are not meant to be played at our tables or games."

So ... what would be my best bet? To send back money to my friend - he cashes out 100 usd and gives it to me?

Or is this rake related? How much rake should I make in order to withdraw 100 usd?

I can understand their point, but imho they are making a big spectacle over such small amount.

Thank you.

The money transfer function is intended for players who are going to spend these funds on the game. Only winnings can be transferred; it is prohibited to transfer money received from deposits. Each request for the transfer of funds undergoes a thorough check. During the transfer of a large amount of money, the security service may contact the player to provide documents. The money received can be spent exclusively on playing in the room; do not try to withdraw it from your account, as this is prohibited by the rules.

Yes, this is a common rule that applies to the vast majority of poker sites. Nothing strange or new. You can simply make, for example, 20 bets on sports at $5 each and thus quickly fulfill all the conditions for further withdrawal of these funds. Of course, on the condition that you understand what bets should be made :)

Typically they will consider, that the money has been spend for playing, if you turn it over once. Like someone suggested make sports bets for $100. Or since this is a poker forum, buy in to tournaments for $100. Like for instance 20 x $5 SnGs or 50 x $2 SnGs. After that you can presumably withdraw, whatever you cashed for, be it $68 or $151.

If you wanted the money to withdraw it (& not for your Stars account), then why not just ask them for money instead of getting it sent on Stars?

Its not a spectacle & clear in their withdrawal policy. It is critical for their license to avoid money laundering since they're not a bank or a money transfer site. Its not rake related. You have to spend the $100 in the site then you can withdraw whatever remains. If you're not interested in the games then just send back the money.

Related to this most sites will also not accept, that you deposit and then try to withdraw without having turned the money over at least once. Like if you deposit $500, play 10 x $5 SnGs with a net profit of $11, and then try to withdraw the entire $511 sitting in your account. In that case most sites will also tell you, that money deposited is supposed to be used for the games, they offer, and not just to sit there for a short time and then be withdrawn again. As others have said, poker sites are not banks or e-vallets, and they have an obligation to make sure, they are not used for money laundering purposes.

This is one of the reason's many Poker Sites come under scrutiny from Law enforcement, because it could be considered money laundering, I know $100 is not a huge amount but if this happened to 100 Accounts then the figure gets to $10,000, So who knows what is going on?
Poker Sites are just that afraid of being suspected of knowingly participating in money laundering, they have to have rules to prevent this from happening, It is a sad state of affairs but this is the World we live in.
Return the money to your Friend and if he wants to give you $100 then find another way, Poker Sites are not ATMs

It is a rule that most casinos apply, that is in their terms and conditions, you should bet or play poker for a week, that way you can withdraw your winnings.

I agree with the posters above, but I wonder how this works for cash games. If I bought in to play cash for some amount of the money, and have been winning ever since, how it will be determined that I played with these 100$ in particular?

I guess, this will be rake related then. I heard in videos about how to use crypto for deposits/withdrawals that one needs to rake 10% of deposit before attempting to withdraw.

Its a bit more difficult to keep track on for cash games, but every time you put money into a pot, you are wagering a bet. But in reality sites will most likely look at the rake generated, as you suggest. Raking 10% in cash games mean, you wagered the money at least twice assuming a 5% rake.

If he meet the general conditions for withdrawing then yes.

Well he sucessfuly transfered his 700 bucks that he won and sent me rest. So now my plan would be to resend him what he sent to me so he can withdraw it and give me the cash. It is evident he won money on tournament but I'm just wondering if that's the way we could do it.

Because I have really nasty feeling I will have streak of bad beats with this money and turning 100 is really not something I want to do right now.

With this, the sites probably want to prevent other opportunities for fraud and collusion, but there is nothing wrong with this, you have to spin it at a cash table or tournament or in sports betting, and then you can withdraw it, provided that the game was successful.

Yeah, and from what I understand 100% of the funds. Right now I need the money which my friend earned legally so I'm wondering if me transferring his money back to him would let him withdraw those 100 bucks. that he previously sent to me.

I have often wondered if there is a time limit on these type of restrictions. For example if you get 100 dollars transferred to you from another player if a year passes could you withdraw with no restrictions. I have also wondered if you chose ACR as your method of getting your cardschat replay poker winnings if that would be considered a P2P transfer and would have withdrawal restrictions.

Well I think, there is no other way to find out, than to try. And if your friends withdrawal is also refused, he just need to play with the money, so it can be withdrawn later. Perhaps he could then send you some of the $700, he already withdrew? I guess, its lesson learned for both of you, since nothing would have been easier than him withdrawing $800 instead of $700 and then using a service like paypal for the private transfer :)
