Can you control your money or your big win will quickly disappear into the poker swamp

the best thing is to ban addicts from playing but I think anyone gets addicted, even a professional(the only difference is that he has enough money)

Personally, yes I can control my money. Even back in the day when I thought I had a future in poker I always knew that lady luck had a wicked vengeance. She giveth a little and taketh away a lot.

Banning addicts? In an ideal world that might work, but in an ideal world you wouldn't have addicts in the first place.

The poker sites have allowed for this for years. People can exclude themselves for periods of time.

It all depends on a person's perception of money. I believe that there is no need to limit anyone. If a person is 18 years old, he or she can analyze the consequences of his or her actions. Restricting freedom of action is not a problem solution.

You are wrong. Addicts need not money but the help of a qualified psychologist. I easily control my spending and never spend more than I can afford. That is why for me poker is a hobby that brings me pleasure and money.

I believe that people with addictions should not play poker! For obvious reasons. Likewise, for example, a person with heart problems cannot practice high-performance sports.

Whoever doesn't follow bankroll management, it doesn't really matter how much money they have in their account, they won't get along very well anyway. I think that is why it is advisable for them to deposit a little money, because they will probably end up spending it all anyway.

The poker sites have allowed for this for years. People can exclude themselves for periods of time.

Responsible gambling laws and site watchdogs are run under very strict laws and guidelines when it comes to self exclusion. They make it hard to almost impossible to get back playing once one else excludes them shelves thru official channels. Run a search of these forums I'm sure find a number of threads from players who have self excluded them shelves talking about the issues and troubles they've had getting back playing.

Self exclusion is pretty much poker/gambling suicide especially if a player only has one site they really like and prefer to play at. I would only recommend it to a person with an actual real gambling problem who can't control them shelves at all and it affects their everyday life and ability to live.

Not an addict here but now days I do wish I had more time to play. I kinda miss the old days of grinding for hours a day.

Cheers!!!

In poker for you to lose all your money you don't need to be addicted, you just don't know how to manage your bankroll, a poker addict is actually addicted to betting and not to poker itself

Can professional gamblers be addicted? .... I don't think so. For professionals, this is a job, and a professional will never play games that he cannot afford, otherwise he is not a professional but just an addicted player :)

Do you know any professional poker players? (if your thinking is correct, how long were they able to remain as a 'professional'?)
Have you asked them about this?

Why would you as a poker player want to be banned from playing poker? Do you even like the game of poker?

Personally I think many of your posts are 'projecting'.... aka you projecting your own stuff on to others. It seems you assume that others must think & believe the same as yourself.

Personally I'd say I am addicted to the game of poker. But I've NEVER blown my poker bankroll. I've never squandered away any money when playing poker. If anything I'm a 'bankroll NIT' (to a detriment)

Don't you think adults should be able to take responsibility for themselve's? If a person is an addict, should he/she expect that limitations should be put on ALL people because of their own personal addiction?

If you like to drink alcohol, does this make you an alcoholic?

Yes, sometimes I want to play more expensive. But before that, it ended with a bankroll merge. Now I strictly adhere to bankroll management and do not enter expensive tournaments

I can easily control my finances, it's not a problem for me. In my case, if I have money, I spend it right away. There is so little money that there is nothing to control :)
As for poker, I easily follow bankroll management and almost never spend more than $5 a day on the game. Currently, my bankroll is $150.

The 2 most important things for a poker player to do are very easy, proper bankroll management and game selection.

I think most players dont do a good job at either one.

I dont know or understand what you are saying...I dont necessarily play for money anymore its a good way to help my mind and get the surge of competition etc....But if i goto a casino? I still feel even though lost some cognitive thinking etc...I OWN every poker table i sit at....Ive always felt this my entire adult life....Not everyone is an addict? I quit every year from 40 to 50 for a month or so etc...
