Let's say you are playing a satellite with 13 players left, late reg has ended, and ten gets a ticket.

The biggest stack has six times more than the starting stack and the second and third also have big stacks.

This should be a no-brainer for the big stacks. Sit back, relax and watch how positions 9 to 13 make each other miserable.

Yet, more often than not I see at least one big stack battling against mid and small stacks and risk their sure ticket win. And it's not like chips from that tournament would be carried over to the next step - you only get a ticket and that's it.

What are they thinking?

Both of those things and a complete lack of common sense. God love them thou as they're the players keeping poker alive and profitable in 2024.

Cheers!!!

These types of players have been hurt a lot by poker and are looking for revenge no matter who

for example-
Those people who have experienced violence in their childhood act in a similar way and when they grow up, they sometimes hurt innocent people out of revenge.
any behavior has an explanation if analyzed more deeply

The point is that they don't think. I often see such situations too, and I've come to the conclusion that the players who behave like this are at this stage of the tournament just by chance. That's why they don't think and don't know what to do.

I really wouldn't pay attention to them, I would wait for them to eliminate each other and I would only play the monster hands but cautiously, and continue with the ticket 😀.

Unfortunately, when you're the small stack and wait for one of those unexplainable things to happen, they won't. 🥹🤣
And when you are the short stack, and you come out with AA in a situation like that, the big stack calls your all-in with a pair of 22s and hits four of a kind, and he still laughs in your face, because you were left without a ticket, long live poker.😁🤣🤣

I've never understood that either! But most likely the big stacks just want to show their advantage. Yes, you wrote it right, it's the players ego. This is the category of players who play poker to dominate.

Its just a lack of icm understanding. I think a lot of times they enjoy being a "satty hero" and trying to take everyone out.

Thats why sattys are so good, a lot of the time the players dont understand the icm.

yesterday I saw the chip leader fold less than a small blind on the stone cold bubble of a satellite. It was pretty frustranting cause I had 2 blinds and was waiting for someone to bust to get my ticket

I'm sure he just wants to finish it faster... A strong card... or just a feeling of personal dislike for someone)) I also have notes on some))
