Over a 10 billion dollar a year industry is not gonna go away any time soon. Theres still plenty of ways to get money around yet, getting riskier. I doubt anytime soon we will be watching on the news, federal agents knocking down doors, taking axes to our hardware and leading us out of our houses with ankle, and wrist cuffs for playing a game of
poker online. There is a good chance all this going on in the U.S. is money motivated. In 1996 nothing was really being done about online gaming sites when it started. Ten years later and profits in the billions what would you expect from such an honest, straight up government. With all the changes taking place in government, I would bet on greed winning over and becoming legal and regulated in the U.S. soon. Do you really believe people like Sen. Frist who snuck this law into legislation, being so concerned about us poor souls trying to make a buck playing poker. Certainly playing poker is a much better risk then playing lottery or betting on horses. Just read this about Sen. Frist one of the people we elected to make decisions for us.
Medicare criminal fraud investigation
Hospital Corporation of America was the subject of a decade-long Federal investigation into double-
bookkeeping and suspected criminal
fraud involving the billing of
Medicare,
Medicaid, and
Tricare (the federal program that provides health insurance to members of the military and their families). During this period no one in the Frist family had any executive position in HCA. HCA has paid a total of $1.7 billion in fines, the largest fraud settlement in U.S. history. Shortly after Frist assumed his position as Senate Majority Leader, a final fine of $631 million was assessed and the ongoing Justice Department investigation into HCA was dropped. Rick Scott, who had been hired to run the company after Frist's brother's retirement, quickly left the company. Frist's brother, a billionaire, returned to HCA to get the company back on track; in addition, HCA was allowed to continue its Medicare contracts.
