Shocking numbers. Unfortunately he didn't have the skills to win at the highest level, and lost so much as he didn't have the humility to move down stakes.

All movement is along the path taken, and usually this is either the peak of success or the end point of the activity.A random cooler for a lot of money is your luck, and a systematic loss of hundreds of small-medium banks is your systematic negative game.In poker, in the short term, luck beats skill.Sometimes we just have a lot of bad luck, and we just have to keep playing the right way and not get hung up on non-existent mistakes - they are much smaller than you sometimes think. The best players in the world go through crazy downswings, but they keep playing.

The secret might be also in beeing an ambassador. I am sure their buy ins get sponsored and therefore they dont have to pay themselves. So it might also explain his aggressive gameplay in some videos i have watched. And we should also mention the mental part. Its unfortunately also one of reasons why poker might be risky for some players. If you have a mental breakdown or private problems, it can seriously influence your game. So we dont know what happend in his private life.

Gus told in a Danish podcast that he, mainly due to tilt, has lost more than $20 millions on Full Tilt Poker. It is questionable that tilt is the main reason to his meltdown. In the podcast Gus also called himself a degenerate gambler. It is also debatable if Gus could afford to lose so much in online games. As of 2024 Gus Has won $10.26 in live games. For a period Gus had a “normal” job as a bookkeeper in Cophenhagen. In 2020 he moved permanently to his hometown Copenhagen from Monaco. His girlfriend gave birth to a baby the same year. From perhaps 10% taxes in Monaco we have in the ballpark of 50% income taxes in Denmark. However poker winnings are taxfree. GG is not legal in Denmark but pokerstars is. Gus knows off course this too.
