I've tried online poker and have been almost breaking even. I have consistently been a winning player at live 1/2 and 3/6.

A big part of my live success was finding spots with lots of fish. For example, there was a popular resort/casino nearby. I used to go on Fridays and Saturdays during peak hours when people were just there to party/drink/have a good time. That being said, I had another where mostly retirees used to play and I would home my skills there but still come out ahead (just not as much).

I have quickly learned that online is a different animal and tightened up my pre-flop play. I haven't used any HUDs yet. Any advice as far as resources/books/etc. would be appreciated.

You can try doing a better job of game selection, if you color code players this becomes a lot easier.

Live tends to be easier than online, so maybe try moving down in stakes online until you are winning, then gradually move up.

A hud might make things easier and you can have the hud auto rate players for better game selection. You can also use the hud to look at things like how many BBs players win per 100 hands etc. You may also to be able to play more tables with a hud if it helps you make faster decisions.

Thanks. I definitely can't go down in stakes. I was playing $0.01/$0.02 and it was harder than any live game I have played.

You are 100% right on table selection. I lost $2.00 over 4 days and quite a few hands. Had some swings up (to $3.50) and down (to $0.00), but my biggest loss was a table with 3 NITs that had the badge for having a bunch of hands played. I stayed well after I knew I was the sucker at the table but I wanted to see how these guys play and learn a few things (the money being insignificant, about the cost of a single bite out of a big mac).
