Live Poker in Texas

Just back from a small city in Texas and so frustreated that the home of Texas Holdem does not have card rooms. This city had various game rooms holding poker tournaments but limited feedback I heard is that they have frequent raids by police and violence. Any feedback on best options to play poker in South Gulf Coast Texas?

Actually the poker scene in Texas is quite robust. There are well established poker rooms in all the major cities, TCR in Dallas and Austin, The Lodge in Austin with another one opening in San Antonio, several in Houston. Texas is a huge state so I'm sure there are places where it's hard to find a game but Poker Atlas shows 67 rooms in Texas. Download the Poker Atlas App and the Bravo App if you haven't already. I was actually able to find a great regular game in Laramie Wyoming when I was doing a project in Colorado. GL

As I understand it, the special thing about Texas is, that all the poker rooms operate as clubs, meaning some sort of membership is required. Rooms are not allowed to take rake, so instead there is a time fee. But yeah there is plenty of poker in Texas. The Lodge got quite famous, after Doug Polk took over part of the ownership.

The fun part of playing live poker was actually experiencing the trip to find those places where you can play in a safe, inviting atmosphere. Then finding cheap ways to stay around them or get back to them.

The regs in TX know which ones are ok and which ones to pass on.

People can go to OK or LA depending on where they live in TX for a game on the weekends without worrying about any of that stuff or just jump on a plane at one of the major international airports in TX and get a cheap round trip ticket to any major poker casino that is near a major city.

And it would cost them like a $1/2 live max buyin with taxi fare.

Just depends on how serious and motivated people are to find a game.
