In my city there will be a tournament where the buy-in is high but I am inexperienced in live tournaments. What to do to not get nervous

I believe that maintaining trust, throwing your hands safely and not thinking about the amount helps a lot. If you keep thinking only of the money you spent, you end up being afraid to play your hands and you will lose the chip in the dots.

I recently played live satellite and that's exactly what happened, I was thinking about the money I spent and losing it very quickly

Recentemente joguei um satélite ao vivo e foi exatamente isso que aconteceu, fiquei pensando no dinheiro que gastei e o perdi muito rápido
This is a big problem, I've also experienced it before, the ideal is to play smaller tournaments until you gain confidence, or play a big tournament like this to gain experience

Yes, I intend to play in a tournament on Saturday, if I lose it will hurt but if I win I will gain a lot of confidence

I don't usually like to give advice, but what I would say to you is, don't play, if you don't have experience, the other more experienced players at the table will notice this, and will take advantage of your weaknesses in the game.

I would start with lower limits, until you gain experience, just a tip.😉

Being nervous in live tournaments is a bad thing, the more experienced players will notice this and will attack you in every hand you play.

That's why I say play lower stakes until you gain experience and confidence.

Here is the thing about live poker, you don’t want to find yourself playing in events you can’t comfortably afford to loose. When you buy into a tournament that money is now gone and you must min cash to get it back. Only the top 10-15% are going to cash, so you have to be better than most of the field to have a chance. Experience is great and even playing this event to get experience would be great for you if you can afford it.
Good luck!

If the size of the buyin makes you nervous, its probably best to start with lower buyins and work your way up as you gain comfort.

Thank you friend, the factor of losing money really weighs on me, next time I won't think too much about it so I don't get nervous

Start with small tournaments; however, if only high-stakes tournaments are available, still play confidently. Wait for good cards, and even when you get good cards, start with small bets. Never go all-in based solely on your two cards.

Confidence in your skill set is a must in MTT poker especially if the buy-in is what you would consider large:geek:

I had played in two small $100 buy-ins in a Niagara Falls New York casino when I was lucky enough to join Debi and other Cardschat members at the annual CC participation at the 2019 wsop Colossus. The buy-in was $400. Vegas was mobbed, filled with thousands of WSOP hopefuls. Playing live in Niagara could not have prepared me for playing at the WSOP in Las Vegas...it was incredible. The electricity in the air got everybody excited. Seeing famous pro players (including one at my table) was so amazing. It was the experience of a lifetime.
My point is this. Take any occasion you can to feel what real poker excitement is all about. Even if the buy-in is significant...I mean $400 was a lot to me (a retired federal civil servant from canada). Of course, you should not endanger your ability to pay your bills and look after your responsibilities, but if this is part of your poker budget or entertainment dollars set aside, it may well be worth going into that special tournament. My experience, even though I went to Vegas without my wife, and it probably cost a couple thousand dollars (US), was totally worth it. Whatever you decide, good luck.

How much is the buy-in? Nobody asks, I really want to know... :)

Ont. Never play with something you can't afford to lose - it really doesn't matter how much money you play poker with - always remember that you can say goodbye to "him" in 90% of cases...BUT, when it's not a problem for you to say goodbye to that amount of money, the nervousness disappears and you have fun! :)

+ breathing technique helps to other players not notice that you are nervous... ;)

My opinion is that it is worth doing this. It is possible to win that tournament and then you will be happy

Yes, it's a good question, according to my experience, it's worth it if the money you invest doesn't affect your budget, what do I mean? I mean, play stress-free to have a clear mind, to make the right decisions when important flops are played.

^ All of this. @Dejana is very wise.

Treat the buy-in as "entertainment money" and don't expect to see it again when you pay the buy-in. If the buy-in is too high to where you're saying to yourself, "If I don't cash, it'll hurt me financially," then don't play it.

If you cash, then awesome!

Use the money that you can afford to lose, if it is money that you have saved for other things I recommend that you do not play. You can start with low-money tournaments and gain confidence

If the betting dij puts pressure on the person, then we play bad poker at the table. Then the person moves a lot of good cards because you do not want to fall out.You should not think about the money to bet, only about the competition.
