Ok this happened today at the Grand Poker Series, Las Vegas.
We have been playing a couple hours by now, the blinds started at 100-200-200, 30 min levels, 40k to start out. Blinds are now 1000-2000-2000.
EP1 opens for 5k.
EP2 calls. Button calls. (Button is an elderly lady who has been super tight the whole game and who has been playing an honest game so far). Both blinds fold.
Pot is 20k.
Flop comes J-8-4 rainbow.
EP1 checks
EP2 checks
Button checks
Board in the turn is now J-8-4-2
EP1 bets 10k
EP2 folds
Dealer pushes the pot to EP1. EP 1 mucks cards and dealer puts them mixed up in the muck. Everyone at the table said the button is still in the hand.
Before the dealer pushed the pot to EP1 she put out 10k for the call.
EP1 didn’t stack the chips in his pile yet, they were there in front of him. The dealer apologized to EP1 and of course he called the floor immediately.
Any guesses on the floor ruling??

Ruling. EP1 had to give up the entire pot because his hand is mucked. He doesn’t agree with the floor. Floor said, “it is up to the player to know who he is playing against and did not protect his hand. Even though it was the dealers fault his hand is in the muck and the button is the only one on the table with live cards so she wins. Next time pay attention”. EP1 was pretty pissed at that ruling calling it unfair and he doesn’t agree and doesn’t accept that ruling. Floor says “oh really, well here is what I am going to do. I am going to take that money out of your stack and put it in the buttons stack”. So he was pissed and we were trying to calm him down and saying just give it to her and move on.
EP1 said he had QQ.
The button who could have not said anything said she had KK lol. So the guy immediately went from pissed to relieve.
How do you guys feel about the decision? I agree with it. Players really have to pay attention at all times.
Also protect your hand!
Good luck out there!

Hey Danny,
It's not really a matter of agreeing with that decision or not, it's a rule. And their cards didn't matter either, the lady wins the pot even if she has 73.
The worst mistake in live poker is to let go with your cards. One should always protect them all the way till the end of any given hand.

Yea the lady could have not said anything and let the guy tilt but she let him off the hook. Maybe the real question should be, do you, if your the lady on the button, even say what you have or do you let him stew and be tilted?

It is a costly error, but it is important for everyone to pay attention. If the other players were saying the button was still in the hand, both the dealer and EP1 should have listened.

Its clearly the dealer, who made a mistake here by pushing the chips to one player, before the hand is finished. The rules do not say, that the dealer is allowed to do that, and its very reasonable for a player to assume, the hand is finished, when the dealer has rewarded them the pot already. So if MP1s cards were retrievable, they should have been retrieved, and the hand should have continued. However it sounds like, the cards were not retrievable (mixed into the pile), and then of course there is nothing to do.

With that being said, it sounds like, the situation was handled poorly by the floor person. Rather than pretend, that this was mainly MP1s fault and install a further punishment for arguing with him, the floor should have sincerely apologized for the mistake made by the dealer. This is basically like a dealer angleshot, and just imagine if dealers started to team up with some players and do this on purpose, when they are in a hand. I dont think, this is an environment, honest players would want to be in ;)
