I'm sure theei have been previous threads on the subject before, but I'm bored and have decided to waste my time by enlightening the masses. Many of us claim that we are to smart be cheated or that not everyone cheats. Well i don't care if your Kasparov or Einstein, If I were playing Poker and I'm prepeared to cheat, your bankroll is gone. And i'll do it in such a way that would make inspire Picasso.
There are a various methods of cheating. Ok, when I say various, I mean a lot, not just a lot, I mean like infinity. People are conceiving new methods of cheating everyday. Cheaters wanna win, they wanna win so bad that they will spend days upon days perfecting one single sleight or a method of marking the cards with nail marks so you know whats coming and whats out there. I have decided that I will share with you a wealth of information on cheating methods that work but more importantly I'm gonna tell you how to protect yourself from some of the more common methods that professional cheats use to hustle the shit out of your bankroll. And you can bet your ass off that one out of three Live games you probably play, your being cheated. and thats if your not trying to cheat yourself. The simple truth is people love money and they'll do whatever it takes to get it. I swear to God, one in three people try to cheat when they are playing live. So if you are a real poker player then you should go to the same extremes to protect your bankroll from those who want it.
If your playing underground games or club games, bar games, home games whatever; You should get in the habit of buying lots of decks of cards and cary them with you(Still sealed of course and wrapped in celopheane) whenever you set off play. And always insist that a brand new deck of cards be used and that everyone at the table can insure its authenticity. You should always get into the habit of examining the deck of cards before you play. You do care about your bankroll, right. Then you must protect it, your not gonna play 7,2 offsuit right. Then you should "CHECK THE DECK".
MARKED CARDS
These are some various forms of making the cards, by the way for those of you uninformed out there, you can call marked cards paper. Any deck you play with can be marked beforehand or during play. And each deck of cards has unique ways of marking them. I'm gonna tell the most common ways of doings this and how you can "CHECK THE DECK" anytime throughout the game if you think someone is pulling some shanninigins on your ass. So pay attention.
Juiced Decks
Juiced decks are for sale at some good magic shops or online. The really goods ones are about 1500 bucks. They come in forms that look exactly like Bicycles RIder Back cards and Bees most common diamond back card, you can get them in red or blue. the ones i've seen work like those magic eye 3D posters and books that were popular like nine years ago. You relax your eye and the value of the card can be seen kinda 3D like on the back. This is one of the more difficult decks to expose. But if you thinks something is afoul then take the time to look at the back of the deck with a relaxed eye.
The cost effective decks use crude methods such as applying a ultraviolet ink and applying it to the back of the card. The cheat will then have either a coloured visor or sunglasses and then can obviously see the hidden value of the card. And most of the time you can uncover the difference of the back of the card in constrast to the back of a brand new card from the same brand. Take a magnifying glass or just a clear drinking glass, beer glass or what not and examine the two like you were Sherlock Holmes. And more importantly don't let anyone where a red, green or blue plastic (you know, like the plastic red and blue you see in those 3D glasses) or people wo where those old folk sunglasses that wrap around your skull and don't let any light through. Again i say these are crude methods.
CUT WORK
Any idiot with an exactoknife can do this. Quite simply you take the knife and very lightly cut along the the lines on the face of the card. Small lines in the ink( the edges of the numbers or the outline on the card. These are small cuts, and only through the first layer of the card, so it can only be felt if you know what to feel for. This way, when the cards are in your hands you can feel the value of each card you deal and when necessary deal seconds or from the bottom or simply just to know whats out there. You should always lightly run your finger over the back of a card and examine the front side the card for any knicks or scratches.
INKING
Most games are played with Bee cards or Bicycle cards and each deck has its features that are easy to mark and easy to spot when you really look for it. I would use a dye solution or an ink either home made or bought on the internet. They are avalable in the different reds and blues that cards usually come in.
Bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle, isn't that a line from some song. Bicycle's rider back cards have theat cool assymetrical design to them, more importantly they have those cool flower like things in the four corners and they have what look like appear to be little bnirds near the middle part. Well you mark out certain spots to inform you what card your looking at. You can mark out the flowers, one petal for each card value. The same thing goes for the birds or the lines. So When you "CHECK THE DECK" flip through the cards like those tiny action flip through books you played with when you ere young, you know the ones that made drawings move around. Well Flip through the cards fast and if anything appears to move around well that deck is tainted.
Bee
BUzzz, i love Bee decks too, they got that cool white and whatever diamond kinda checkered pattern. Well the same thing goes, you make a diamond more outlined near the corners and presto, you what the cards is. Everyone out there has their own system of marking Bee deck, but you can do the same Flip through action as before and voila, you can spot any attempts at someone cheating your sorry ass.
SHADE WORK
I'm a shady guy, your a shady guy, we are all shady people. Shade work is when you pick a pot on the back of a card and blemish it just a tiny bit by using an acid or even rubbing it down. it's a small spot that and because only you know where to look for it, it escapes the untrained eye. Some shade work can be very hard to detect and requries careful examination of the card to expose. But if you know where to look it sicks out like a sore thumb. I've seen some immaculate shade work done, do good luck on this one, you best bet against this is to insist the a brand new unopened pack be used everytime you start a game. After all your risking your cash and there is nothing wrong in requesting a brand new deck, more often than not you will find that the majority of people will be more than happy to play with a brand new deck. It almost levels the playing field. Ok it doesn't really help but at least it prevents some of the more crude cheating tactics.
Edgework, Nail Pinching and Sanding
During the game you can lightly pinch the edges of a crad so that it appears to be just a random nick. But because you put it there you know it is not just any random nick, it represents an Ace or a King or whatever. Everyboody seems to come up with a different system for doing this so pay attention to the premium cards and if they start to get nicks on them(You are playing with a brand new deck of cards, Right) request a new deck. You's be suprised how many players put nicks in the edges of cards to represnt value, they all do it during the game, each time they are dealt a new card, they pinch it with their nail. This is why after an hour or two you should switch to a new deck. This will at least mean they have to start all over again. So keep a good eye out for nicks on the edges of cards cause it just might mean your getting screwed.
Sanding is like simply when you rough up a small spot on the card so that when you are dealing you can feel the imperfection in the card and know the value of it. It can be exposed by again just rubbing the back of the card and to detect any impertections in it. because this is always done pregame, make sure to request a brand new deck.
The Mechanics
The real Sharks. not the those lame ass Great Whites, but Megalodon. If you run up against a real good card man, your done. My advice is don't play him. Some of you might be under the impression that you'll catch us but i implore you to think otherwise. Yes you might not catch the amatuers and one move guys, but you'll never catch the best of them. The hand is quicker than the the eye. If you wanna catch someone good, your gonna need them to make a mistake. And when you spend years infront of a mirror in a room all by yourself the sleights become more natural than eating. How often do you jab yourself in the eye with your fork while you are eating? I rest my case. Face it your are beat against a guy who can work the cards well. This is why I'm not going to go into detail on the various sleight one can accomplish. Pay attention to how people deal and if something is done just a vit differently than you think it should happen, fold your cards. Don't play against the mechanic. If you happen to spot a hanger, Go all in----------All in on his face. If you are bound and determined to spot a card man, learn how to sleight cards. This is your best defense. You need to understand the various grips and hand positions, crimps, false shuffles etc. etc...Play smart. Countdown the cards often, make sure there are 52 cards or 54 if you have two jokers. Do this often, if its a game where you get to deal, do it everytime you have the deck. Pay attention to how people hold their hands and rest them. More often than not someone is attempting to hold out on you.
DAUBS
Daubs are a sticky residue that can be carried with you and hidden in your shoe or your pockets are where ever. They are applied to the card and Ta Da you have yourself a marked card. Like everything else everybody does it slighly differently. When your checking the cards look for tiny marks that seem to be harmless. if they appear on more than one card, request a new deck.
MIRRORS
Some people put little trinkets or packs of matches, keychains, troll dolls or sorts of crap on the table. People also have tiny mirrors hidden in these things and when they are dealing they pass the card over top of the object and look down to see the reflection of the card they just dealt. I mean people put mirrors everywhere, so watch their eyes, if they always look down when they are dealing, they might just have a hidden mirror.
PROTECTING YOURSELF

And don't take for granted that a brand new deck is untampered, examine the cards carefully before and after you play. Request a new deck every so often. Make it as hard as possible for some one to cheat in your game. You want to always be mixing them up, make them start over. pay attention to peoples hands when they have the deck.
