Do you have any rules of thumb for when to hero call on the river?
This is what poker really boils down to, this moment you find yourself in on the river. Your opponent bets and now we have to decide on what to do now.
There are lots of things to consider here. How much is the bet compared to what’s in the pot. Have I seen this person bluff in this spot? What’s the stack sizes? Is it better to raise, call, or fold.
When I’m playing live in these spots it’s so important to pay attention to what this player has done in the past.
Making a mistake here can be pretty costly because calling or raising and being wrong will cost us a lot of chips.
So I think bad players will call off too often hero calling because if they are right they will look and feel like a bad ass and if they are wrong they can just muck their cards and no one ever gets to see the bad call they made, no harm no foul. Good players will consider everything before making the call.
