Hi :)

So there are a number of things I feel like I'm doing well and feel like I have a way of winning a lot of hands.

I'm mainly doing so at the moment on a sit and go £1 game

What I'm doing well :
  • I'm very selective and tight with what hands I go into a flop on (picture cards, pocket pairs, suited connectors and suited one gappers).
  • I always raise 3BBs pre-flop and re-raise if I have a valuable hand. This really helps me win enough hands to pick-up chips without having to go to the river.
  • After the flop I usually bet 66% or 75% of the pot and this usually scares people away.
What else can I learn?
How can I improve?
What am I not aware of?

  • This is very difficult as I don't know what "I don't know"
  • I guess on a heads up (final two at a table) what strategies can I utilise?
  • With the above method of how I described how I play, are there any dangers or additional things I should or need to worry about?
  • What can I learn from being re-raised postflop?
  • I don't really do any maths calculations or "pot odds" etc as after some YouTube videos I didn't have a sense what these meant or impacted how I was playing

Hi, @whatadom. Welcome to CardsChat. You can learn a lot in this 30 day course https://www.cardschat.com/forum/learning-poker-57/cardschat-30-day-poker-training-course-455641/.
Poker is not dificult, but you have to put the work to learn.

Hello and welcome to CC!
You are right, you don’t know what you don’t know about poker, it’s ok it comes with time, experience, learning and lots of failures. Everyone starting out is there.
Keep your mind open to learning, and learn everything you can in your spare time. Take notes because you will be referring back to them often.
Playing good cards pre flop is just one tool in your tool box. You will need to learn about poker math, as intimidating as it sounds once you learn a few hacks it’s not hard.
Learn about positions, player types, stack size strategies, multi way pots, heads up pots, how to play big blind, small blind, maybe stat with these and then you will be on your way.
Good luck, don’t get discouraged, stick with it and take notes!!

I hate hyper tournaments and love regular tournaments, the ones where the blinds increase every 10 minutes. For example, tournaments like our CardsChat freerolls have a great structure in my opinion. Hyper tournaments or even turbo tournaments are more like a game of bingo than poker :)

I think in micro stakes you should be playing pretty tight preflop and suited one gappers are not tight. Its different if you are stealing with them, but otherwise you will probably be folding a lot of hands post flop.

I think 2.5BBs is a better raise size usually, but later in the game you may want to raise slightly over min. Against certain stations you may want to raise 5x. You should also consider how many limpers are in the hand and raise accordingly.

I think 66% to 75% cbet is ok, but you really should be looking at the board and the villans to decide when to cbet.

If you are not using an ICM tool you probably should be.

I play a similar style, but find that c-betting on an A-hi flop when i don't have an Ace is often a losing proposition.
