How do you play when you flop the nuts?

This is an interesting topic as many players go ultra cautious and look for value on several streets..there is however statistically a great chance of making more money/winning chips when you bet out..or is there?

Tell me how you play when you flop the nuts with multi way callers and also one or callers..how do you keep them interested or does the board need to do that for you..for example, how many times have you flop the nuts and decided to go to value town only to see the board run out a chop or a flush or boat?

Let me know how you play the best hand..do you bet into it or wait for commitment elsewhere and trap?

It all depends on each particular situation. Personally, I do not have standard solutions. It is important to understand how your opponents play and take into account the position at the table.

Definitely depends on the board as opposed to what you're holding. Depends on what the actions preflop were also. Ideally you'd hope a aggressive big stack is there to bet for you so you can get maximum, but what if a few people are in the hand? As the person above said it's all situational. Sometimes it's best to push everyone out so they don't catch something higher than yours.

It all depends on the mood))))) Often, players are afraid to make big bets with nuts. Do not want to frighten an opponent. Because of this, do not get a lot of chips.

If my cards are “AA” then I will check and pray if he has an K or even more KK.

Oh I'm really bad at these spots. Once I bet even like 30% they all fold, if I check board always eventually helps them in a way that I don't have nuts anymore, I have a hand with which I will lose my whole stack Unless I flop quads, I have tripled with that hand a couple of times

It really depends on how I've been playing at the table and the specific player(s) I'm up against. If I've been check calling a lot trying to land something, I'll check call it. If I've been Cbetting a lot and picking up pots I'll play it aggressively. What I don't like doing is going against how I've been playing because my strength will stick out like a sore thumb.

You definitely need to play your opponent. Honestly what I'm starting to try to do is imagine what range of hands my opponent can have when the flop hits and how many of those hands can find a reason to continue if I CBet vs how many hands would instantly fold. Because sometimes if you check back on a board that wouldn't have too many scare cards to your situation on the turn, then sometimes you can convince your opponent that they might have a decent enough hand to actually be the best hand. Like maybe they'll now continue with their TTs on a Queen high board when you have a set or something like that.

Try to see how much you can get from your opponents without them folding while watching for your chances to change on the turn or river.

With a small stack, it's just allin. With an average you play with small raises in order not to lose most of the stack. With a large try to crush the enemy. This is all written in a simplified version. In fact, you need to consider who is playing against you and how many players are at the table and what are their stacks and the importance of the tournament and stuff.It even depends on your mood.

Depends on how all happened at that particular hand , but mostly , I slow play flopped nuts , I think the reason is obvious . Value .


Regardless are you playing tourney/sng/cash , your aim is to make best decision based on long run; So I don't see why u should bet/raise with nuts on flop/turn!Are you afraid you gonna get outdraw ? If so , poker is not a game for u m8 ! -my opinion

On showdown , for sure , but before , I wouldn't . When playing with nuts , we don't want people to leave pot , so slowplay seems like a good play and correct decision here for me ;

I try to hide what I have, trying not to cause many folds. Of course this is very difficult because I start raising, so when it is understood I raise more or I go all in.

when I have the nuts ... I always try to get as much value as possible in each street ... and the size of each bet is determined considering the aggressiveness of your opponents ... the idea is that your opponents are still interested in the spot ...

It’s an interesting question OP asks. However, I do not have a static set of guidelines for when I flop the nuts. What is the goal when we flop the nuts? It’s to extract as much money as possible out of our opponents.


If we play the hand too aggressively, we risk that players will fold and leave us with nothing else but the blinds + perhaps a pre-flop bet. That would be incredibly low value for the nuts. But if we play the hand too passively, we risk it becoming a checking parade with the occasional min-bet, which you could re-raise and possibly get called by – but in most cases it’ll be like the former case – we’ll extract the minimal value out of our opponents.

Thus, how I play the nuts is mostly a function of the table and the players.


In other words: my opponents and their tendencies. Against aggressive opponents, it could be worth it to play the nuts passively and trap them. Against a passive player, that will not work. We must always remember that the goal is to extract the most value and we can ONLY extract value with other players in the POT, so we have to play in such a way that we extract value AND keep them in the pot.


Finding the right way to play the nuts, is learning your opponent’s play-style and tendencies and exploit them to your advantage so you can extract as much money out of them as possible.

If is a two way pot and i was the aggressor i continue betting big, if is a 3+ pot i play slow most of the time because there is a greater chance someone else has a piece of the board.

When I flop the nuts I slow play the flop bet and small play the turn and then hammer the river bet.

Most of the time I want to bet it and bet it on the larger side. I want to build the pot so I can play a big pot with the best hand. Against a LAG who I know will do the betting for me I might check and call and then raise the river and try and look like I'm trying to steal.

But I like to slow play - get that pot built up.

I have checked 2 rounds in a row at times - 99% of players see you check TWICE? they will open up their bank vault and start throwing chips at the pot.

But yeah, I like to slow play.

I THINK - I'm not sure - but I think pro players will shove or get it all out there.

I saw this Doug Polk video not long ago he had KK, and someone had a set later on- and the KK limped... he goes sarcastically 'well that's what you GET people when you don't bet strong with KK pre flop'... So that idea sits with me - and I may explore being more aggressive - but to me KK pre flop isn't the nuts.

To me - flopping a FH- or Flush or straight - would be closer.

My favorite tactic is to get OTHER people to bet - it hides just about any and everything I'm up to.
