Both have a pair of 2's plus AKJ. Poker is best 5 card hand and both players have 2,2,A,K,J.

With hold 'em you play the best 5 cars. You both have A, 22, K, J. It's a lot worse if you have a small pair and there are two pairs on the board, so if you have 77 against AK and the board comes 88, 99, J you lose, even though your opponent doesn't have a pair.

Yeah the board J is a shared card that renders your 7 useless, so you both have the same hand👍

Welcome to the forum. Others have already explained, why its a chopped pot. So I only want to add, that, what happened on the river, is called a counterfeit. Nominally your hand improved from AKJ76 (A high) to 22AKJ (a pair of 2s), but since parts of your opponents range improved more, it was actually a slightly bad card for you. Its also very common, that kickers get counterfeited, when two weak aces go against each other. And this is part of the reason, why a hand like A5s is considered more valuable than A7o.

Another thing to add is, that in Omeha players need to use exactly 2 hold cards and 3 community cards to make a hand. So ignoring the fact, each player would also have two other cards, in Omaha A7 would beat A4 on this board. But in Hold`em players can use 4 or even 5 community cards to make a hand. Which is why, a situation will sometimes occur, where someone is "playing the board". Like for instance a player holding 44 on a board of 88K-J-J. Sometimes the board can even be the nuts like AKQ-J-T no flush possible or 44A-4-4. In these situations its always a split pot.

No need to repeat what has been said but it more common that you may think. many people play any ace x hard even when they have to pair. Problem is you really have no kicker on many run outs, and you can easily be counterfeited.

the usual situation is to split the pot, I don't see anything wrong with this, many people draw aces to the river
