GTO solvers allow you to have a starting point from which you can then exploit--You cannot exploit someone well if you are guessing about what they should be doing... yes you can just play TAG vs fish giving away money and I recommend you do as often as you can but when a solid player is on your table you want to not just fold to them or lose all your winnings from the fish to them. If you play MTT often when you get to FT's there will be good players on the table with you--You need to do more than just play top of range to win FT's consistentlyI watch poker tournament broadcasts often, but sometimes I wonder where professional poker players learn from. Do they really use GTO to help analyze the game?
Spot on. You have to know the nitty gritty of GTO to alter them slightly. I guess it is possible to win without GTO in lowstakes. From NL500 and beyond I have yet to see a reg who does not know pretty much everything about GTO. And also how and when to deviate from the default GTO. As for the Nosebleed Isildur1 crushed the tables circa 15 years ago. The Swede outplayed Tom Dwan, Antonius and Ivey simultainliosly - Heads-Up - untill he lost it all due to Brian Hasting’s datamining. Had GTO been used back then I seriously doubt that a player with Blom’s insanely LAG+ style would win. These times are over. Due to GTO and other issues.Yes. They often use GTO to help see where they or the opponents are unbalanced.
But it's not necessary or even good to play GTO against people you can exploit.
This is a classic example of how knowing the rules can be good before breaking them.
