Building BR in micro HUSNG

Recently I started with $20 on Bovada and have been trying to master HUSNG to turn a profit and be able to move up to higher stakes, currently playing at $1.

My problem is being able to consistently win enough to beat rake and move up in stakes. I have strong streaks which can probably attributed to variance where i go +$10, but then sink back down as low as 10. I'm ~150-200 games in and have climbed as high as $32 and dropped as low as $9. I feel like im stuck in sng limbo, and am not really sure what to do.

I try my best to adjust play as I get reads on opponents, but I will always minraise with button and I rarely, if ever, chase draws. I like to think that I don't play fishy/overly nitty in hu, as I know that your calling range needs to open up and you have to be more aggressive to win hu.


Some of my biggest problems arise playing players who will frequently reraise my button raise, forcing me to fold in most cases or further invest into pots that I don't feel I can win. When the time comes that I feel that I can challenge them after a rr, they will instafold out at the sign of any aggression because they know that I haven't been calling their rr.


TL;DR: I like to think that I am playing technically and fairly well; I don't play a nit playstyle but I also don't feel that I am aggressive to the point of being a fish. Can anyone give any advice regarding HUSNG in general, or specifically? Tired of hanging around the $1 level and really want to move up.

Yeah, I have. I'll try to look into it more, though. I've looked back at some of my hand history from husng games on Bovada and tried to gather info from that as well.

You're playing at the wrong stake. With $20 BR,you should be playing at a .25 buy-in. You have to hold on to the variance by having a BR base on stake that will give you lots of entry/buy-in.

As they say, the more the entries, the more the chances of winning.

There is no lower husng stake at bovada.

Time, the sample size you are talking about doesn't sound like it carries much weight. Two questions, #1 Do you believe your game is fundamentally sound? #2 How long do you realistically expect to invest before moving up?

If the answer to #1 is "Yes, I trust the basic strategy of my HU play" then allow it to run it's course for a bit.

I'd like to think it's fundamentally sound, but I obviously don't think that there are no problems. I'll invest as long as I need to assuming it happens eventually. It's just irritating to be closing on 200 games and be even still. Would be up 100% if it weren't for rake, but that's obviously not realistic.

Maybe I'm being impatient, but I just don't want to bust/be stuck at the $1 level forever.

I've played these ~200 heads up games in about a week, so I'm playing kind of a lot.

In the short term, it's going to be volatile. In the long term, if you play well, your graph will often end up looking pretty consistent (unless you zoom in on small stretches).

200 games is a very small amount, it's maybe 30 hours at the tables if you single table turbos. If every winner was guaranteed to win over a 30 hour period, then none of the losing players would want to play this game.

Work on building mental strength, learn more about the game to build confidence in your play, and really try to work on seeing things in a longer time period than 200 games. I know it's not easy, but it is what separates many winners from losers.

Thanks, this is good advice. I've been playing fairly well (in my opinion) and am up a little over 100%, currently sitting at $42 range.
