Would like to try playing live at an actual poker room

I've never played poker anywhere besides online and at home (for fun). My question is should I try reading up more on how to play live or just go for it? Also do I start at cash tables or maybe a small buy-in tourney? I was thinking of going alone that way if I go out first no one that I know will be a witness. So any advice on where to start? or when? Oh just in case its necessary to know, I've been playing online for a little over 8 years now? :dontknow:

Hi pokertoi... my suggestion would be to play 1/2 at horseshoe considering you are a decent player. Make sure you have a few buy ins and I usually observe the tables for a hour or so to look for weak spots. There is a lot different live than online though so there is a massive learning curve IMO. a lot less action per hour and can be hard to stay focused at times. It's the same game, but with:
- Less hands per hour
- Chips instead of numbers
- Physical tells (sometimes)
- Less skill/more gamblers

If you've been playing for awhile and know a little theory/math, you'll be (pleasantly) surprised at how awful live players are. To a lot of them, poker is just another luck-based game like blackjack, roulette, craps, etc. If they hit, they go home with money. If they don't, they don't care.

live play with other players face to face is so mutch more time taking u need to prepare ur slf to be on a table ex: with 8 other players and the game is gonna take like 6 or something like this hours
its so mutch slower than online

i was on a live game that had like 18 players and like after 4 hours there was only 2 who had fallen out didnt like conc... this and lost

put its better to blufff against players (Y)

maybe u should go to cash table first if ur starting to play live

Go for it! Go play some live event, but don't rush with huge buyins, take it easy, play some cheep stuff. I recommand you 1st, go play with you friends in real money few bucks and you will see if you are for that or not. Your body will tell you are you for live poker or not, coz it is bloody stressfull. Thank you very much for this link, I actually learned a lot from it, but I think i'd feel better if I had an actual poker playing friend with me to show me the ropes.

as I have understood for what they say professionals is easier to play poker live online, all you will have to take care is not to give clues physically when you have good or bad cards because they play live with some read your gestures, then is much like the online game, a humble opinion, greetings

I'm in Cleveland also, I have a suggestion for you. I belong to a poker group that plays in peoples homes, we are very strict on rules and have very good structures for our tournaments. My suggestion is to goto the link and sign up find a posted game (there are only a couple right now) and sign up and contact the host about entry. Our hosts are particular about who they allow in their homes, they will ask for some info and then give you address.

The reason I suggest this is because
A) you can learn the the rules so as not to show this is your first time in a casino.
B) Our games range between $40-$200 for tournaments and $.25-$.25 to $1-$2 with no rake EVER.

This will get you comfortable with playing live before making the jump to a casino. I will also tell you to stay away from the tournaments at the Horseshoe they have HORRIBLE structures for to much money its bingo not poker.

Probably depends on what you normally play online whether cash or tournament.
But personally I would favour starting with a small tournament just to get the table time and experience cheaply.

Be prepared to play for a long time...
Live games seem to be much more time consuming than online games...
Be careful not to bluff too much also 😌
