To add a little to my friend's rambling help, a rake is basically like a commision that a poker room takes out of every pot in a CASH game. How much they take from each pot varies according to their house rules which can be found online at any of the poker sites. It is usually based on the limits of the game and type (limit, PL, NL). Also, there is almost always a maximum that they take from the pot. There is no rake in tournament
hands. Instead, the entry fee that you pay is how they make their money for tournaments.
