Get real folks it's the Daily Mail. A 'newspaper' designed purely and simply to outrage and frighten it's readership in equal measures. The use of 'could' and 'is considering' are significant imho. The UK might make sure it gets it's cut but it'll never ban or make it impossible to deposit.

These toilet papers just blow everything out of proportion.
The only thing our Government are considering banning,are gambling companies (which are based overseas),from advertising in the UK.
And what's all this about foreign companies?
Most of these companies are British.
They just moved offshore, to avoid paying UK taxes.
Nowhere,has anyone mentioned anything to do with banning internet poker,or any other form of internet gambling.
It has been suggested,that the Government will impose stricter rules on internet gambling companies,to ensure that no-one under the age of 18 can open accounts.
Also,that accounts can only be funded using debit cards,and not credit cards.
Personally,I think these would be two good acts of legislation.

Although I do not think government should be able to tell people whether or not they can gamble. I do believe that advertising for gambling companies should be heavily regulated, so that gambling is not constantly pushed in peoples faces. If people really do choose what they like and what they are going to do, then there really is no need for heavy gambling advertising campaigns.

Even if this were to happen, it wouldn`t be a huge problem. A lot of internet poker rooms are already based in or licensed in the UK or in UK dependant territories. So, there will always be plenty of choice, even if they were to ban the odd site based in some unregulated third world place.

I also think there is something to be said for not allowing people to run up credit card debts to poker rooms. Unlike in the US, Debit Cards and payment processors such as neteller are permitted for UK players, so credit cards are not necessary and may encourage some to deposit more than they can really afford.

When it says clamp down, all it's going to do is limit advertising and prevent people using credit cards...the second one is a bit of a bugger but they are hardly talking about making it illegal...

I don't honestly read to much into stuff like that. For one, it would take years for it to take off and two their statement in regards to "addicted gambling" is rubbish. For one, poker is probarly the least most played for gambling addicts. It doesn't offer the same "thrill" or "adrenaline" as a roulette wheel or the horses and so on...

Everyday they have some article in a paper regarding something just to fill up pages, I really woulden't worry about it for many years to come!

I certainly aint worried about it.!
