There are so many variations within Judeo-Christian-Islamic beliefs that you're never going to find the right answer. In my opinion, if you do anything to excess, to the point where it adversely affects your day-to-day life, you're sinning. I just don't think he's as loving and benevolent as most of us have been taught, at least here in the West. So -- again this is my opinion -- you have to find your own balance between "right/wrong" and "good/bad" in your life. Either way, there's going to be elements of both, no matter what you do.
