My story:

My husband was playing a lot before we met. (He won around 10 000 dollars in cash games) Time to time he tried to grab me to play at home games or at casino. But I had opinion that everything what is conected to gambling is bad and you can not earn money in poker (even if you win you gonna loose more).

At home games i was playing fine. But in the casino games (free tournaments) I was very worried and sressed, I was literaly shaking when playing (actually I'm still having this when I play offline. Less often but).

I didn't understood the rules correct but still somehow I manage to get to addon and I overwhelmed my feelings and got interested and start to learn something.

At some point I won a 150 dollar ticket to the ladies event and then lost that tournament.

After that I got hoocked I watch videos read an articles and play often, I still didn't won more then couple of bucks and tickets but I also didn't lose any of my own money.

I would like to read here your stories about how did you found out about poker and why you love it.

I found out about it when I was little from watching westerns on television. My mother had taught me to play gin rummy and cribbage when I was six or seven, and since then I've always loved cards. Not only playing but also the handling of the cards while you shuffle, deal, look at your hole card(s), etc... That is one of the many reasons why I prefer live games and tournaments. :)

My mother and father were always very encouraging and supportive of things that my big sister and I were interested in. So when I was probably eleven, and mentioned wanting to play poker, they taught me how. :) We'd play dealer's choice of five card draw, five card stud, and seven card stud or like my father called it seven toed pete. :)

I think that a lot of my love for poker is those enjoyable Saturday evenings with my parents.

thank you for your stori. You remind me that I also played cards a lot when I was child. Mainly it was easy game named "Fool". But I never played games with a gamble.

In my 1st year of university, I played a 7-player mini-tournament among my classmates. I won it. I enjoyed poker and started searching for poker rooms where I could play online. My first poker room was pokerstars. And now I've been playing poker for about 16 years.

You're very welcome. I love talking about myself and telling stories. LOL!!

Is that game called "Durak" in your country. I did a web search and it sounds like it would be fun. Sort of like pitch or bridge.

It’s amazing how something as simple as a game of cards can create such cherished memories. Your parents sound wonderfully supportive, and I love how your love for poker is tied to those special Saturday evenings. Live games definitely have a unique charm—it’s not just about the cards but the whole experience, from shuffling to the banter at the table.

I was born at 6:00 am following an all-night poker game...my mother's water broke at the game, so I guess I was destined to play poker. In first year university, I probably spent more time in the "Reading Room" playing poker than actually reading any of my textbooks. Back then, the popular games were "Guts", "Black Chicago" and 5 card draw...Texas Holdem did not exist back in 1972. The first time I played poker in Las Vegas in 1987, I played 7 card stud...talk about boring!!! My mother taught me to wait for a good starting hand, so I did...played 5 hands in 3½ hours...stopped playing until after Chris Moneymaker won the wsop in 2003...started watching on TV, but didn't play until a trip with my wife to Vegas around 2014...she had a "Spa Day", so I got to play poker. Even though there are full casinos within a 90 minute drive and a "Sortof" resort casino in Toronto now only 20 minutes away, I only enjoy playing live poker when I am on vacation...Vegas, Palm Springs, Niagara Falls, New York.

I discovered poker while watching the James Bond film, Casino Royale. Afterwards I read some posts about Texas Holdem games with play money. I didn't know there was a connected world playing poker online. Afterwards I discovered applications with real money. So I became a regular player who plays cash games and MTTs all the time with real money. I can say that my level has improved and I'm preparing for live tournaments.

I'm actually started from live poker. And I found it way more intersting thn onlin. But I play online to practice because my leveel is bad. Actually at live poker i get reads more easy. But still found it more dificult because i'm also probably to readable for opponents.

Nice to hear a poker story that was upbeat and positive. Poker should be a distraction, entertainment, not an end to itself. Your post was excellent; we all need to remember to have fun and play at stakes that keep it fun.
Some of the best home games are $5 buy-in, and we all split the cost of pizza

I started playing about 5 years ago. I started playing during my forced leave due to the quarantine in connection with the spread of the coronavirus. Since then, I have been playing regularly and since then, poker has become my favourite hobby. I don't really play any other games, card games or casino games, poker is the only game of chance that really interests me.
