Don't tap the glass is a term I have heard a few times when playing poker and its appropriate. If you go to a aquarium or a pet store that has fish you will see this sign. The reason the have the sign is when you tap the glass you may scare the fish.
In the past several weeks I have seen comments by players being made to other players about there play. This has happened on both cardschat games and games non cardschat related games. These comments and not meant to help the player but to shame them or just out of anger.
Last night I saw a player making fun of someone who had call a river bet with a pair of 4's. All board cards were higher than the 4 and this guy lost. Several comments were made about this persons bad play. Why was he doing this after winning a very nice pot? Another night someone called a All in shove with 74o and cracked his aces. He was still in the game as the caller had less chips but the frustrated played commented about the horrible call that was made and called him an idiot. Why? Yes it was a bad beat but you did get what you wanted when you saw you had aces was the call, right? Yes you did. Another night someone got called by K high and again there were comments. yes this guy lost the hand but he was bluffing but how many time do you want a player calling you with nothing when you have a hand or even an ace?
The thing is why should we be upset. We make chips when players make mistakes. What happened when you do make fun of other players?
Well for one they leave the game. We want to grow this game but why wouldn't you want this player in your game? I was at a casino once when a player sat down and in just a few hands lost his buy in. He was drinking and in the last hand called a shoved after 2 streets of bets with Ten high. Yes he lost over $200. in this pot with 10 High. Now tell me, why would you want this type of player leaving the game? I sure as hell dont want him to. If he does leave the game for good you lose the easy money.
The 2nd thing that can happen is the player get up and leaves and actually starts to learn the game and the next time he shows up you expect his bad play and find he has improve by a lot. Guess what your comments lost you and easy mark. and you lose easy money.
You can also piss off decently good players. Poker is a game where bluffs happen and everyone has made a miss click in there online play. If you get these players mad they dont leave, they work on and study the game of poker and become better players. When this happens you dont just lose the easy money but you lose yours.
So next time you see these players dont get mad and be rude. Just be happy they are there and remember, Don't tap the glass. It may scare the fish.
