I have had an addiction to sports gambling in my past. It was a difficult moment in my life. I felt like I could never get out of it, eventually though after enough times where you put yourself in a bad situation you seek help and slowly get out of it. I did not go to AG but I read books and enough hardships and difficulties helped me get out of the addiction. Now I never bet even close to what I cannot lose. For example if I earn 2000 dollars I would only use 40 dollars to gamble and if I lost it I would not gamble again for any amount until my next earnings/salary!

gambling addiction is a serious problem. It's good that you have learned to keep yourself under control.

Playing table games and slots can lead to bigger losses than playing small buyin poker tournaments and lower buy in cash games. It is good that you only gamble with money that is a small amount of the money you make.

It's logical. You're good. You do everything right. I do too. I also have my own limit. Everything is fine in moderation!

If you feel that something is becoming a problem then it probably is. Listen to that voice and seek help. Poker is the only form of betting you mentioned where it is mathematically possible to win in the long term. So if you are going to continue betting, focus on that. Other Casino and Sports betting activities are rigged to favour the house. Play Poker at small stakes for fun. But I would steer clear of pit games.

Yeah, I'm addicted to sports betting and poker but not to the point where I'd put my last dollar on it. It's not an addiction if you're winning, right?

Gambling is tough and its easy to say if you play poker, you can come out on top. So many people think this but onlt a few actually do. I think of it as just an activity/hobby you do.

If you are easily addicted, then id be careful. Im lucky enough to be a millenial and have a short attention span so if i keep losing, why continue? Mind wonders elsewhere...

I started playing poker to find something new to play cause I auto-excluded my self from sportsbetting sites for a year. Winning, and all that feelings of rush and adrenaline I've read stimulates the same spots heroine does. So yeah, I can say I feel you, and the addiction is real. Also, the dream of making big money the easy way its an irresistible lure for most.

I was mostly playing live betting, so I was like the whole day, everyday watching matches like a compulsive junkie. I wasnt really winning money, and when I was it was a matter of time to lose it from being greedy and wanting more, so I was either chasing losses or gamble for the sake of gambling.

Anyway, after a year of not a single bet, I thank myself for the option of auto-excluding myself. And my bank account thanks me also.

Ps. The good thing with poker is that there is always the option of making your bankroll from freerolls and take it from there instead of losing your money everytime. The bad thing with poker is that if you are not playing with cold mathematical logic but letting your emotions run wild, tilt is a real thing that will kill your bankroll.

The passion for gambling is in fact the lack of self-control.
If you can not control your emotions, then you do not have to play anything at all. In such cases it is better to read books. If in the future you will have a passion for books, then there will be nothing wrong with that.

Yeah I agree and I've said this before on other posts but I will again. Poker is a gambling game which is governed primarily by skill. But the chance element to the game is definitely alive and kicking. It is a dangerous game for some people. Players who don't study the game off-table might as well be at the Greyhound track.

It is very tough for me to self exclude but I am at the point where I have stopped gambling with serious money. Now I only make small bets usually long shot parlays for fun for micro amounts. I don't expect to win them but I still make these type of bets. It is a big improvement from my past, big! I think I could go cold turkey and not bet at all but I feel like if I can control myself and not bet any amount more then some pocket change it can't really hurt.

My advice to you is to stay off real money tables for a whole year. You don't need to self exclude. Just withdraw all of your money from the site so your balance is zero and don't reload it. I think you can set up your account so that you can ban yourself from depositing real money. Over that year, get books and read them. I mean really read them and then read them again. Make notes and watch videos of Pros giving advice. Joining a forum is one of the best ways to improve so well done for doing this. I reached a similar point to you several years ago and had a big decision to make. I banned myself from betting real money. Spent a whole year studying and analysing my own play. I didn't come back to the tables until I really felt like I was ready. I am now a 6bb/100+ winner at the micros over a very large sample of hands. I honestly never thought it would happen for me. Most importantly, I made a deal with myself that if I was still a losing player after that year of work then I was going to quit. I kept that promise and was ready to do so. Thankfully I achieved the results that I worked hard for. Don't give up without really trying to study first. Anyone who puts their mind to it can do well in this game. But it takes really hard work and sacrifice. I wish you the very best of luck.

It's very difficult for people to give advice on such a topic as the causes and effects of various addictions differ from person to person. The only definite commonality is that it's the release of dopamine and or serotonin in your brain that the body craves. But the reasons for getting to that level of dependency vary.

I spent a month in a rehabilitation facility about 5 years ago. I was the little kitten there cos I couldn't stop spending all my money on weed. I had just become a father, so that was unacceptable. But anyways, whilst I was there I found great insights into how the different substance / activity abuses affected people's lives and those of the people around them. I have to say, hands down, gambling addiction won the pot (couldn't help it :p). Especially when it came to the anguish of their families. I think because it's easier to lie to yourself and others about as it has no visual signs or physical health symptoms.

What I'm trying to say is, please don't underestimate gambling addiction. It's a nasty beast, especially if your reason for 'chasing the buzz' is because of some traumatic event(s) / childhood, as the need to escape from your own mind is the main cause for a relapse into addiction.

If that's not the case and you simply got caught up in the maelstrom by diving in with your guard down. Then just make sure you have your wits about you at all times whenever you're reentering the lion's den. Keep reading your literature and keep the lines open with whoever it was that you sought help from initially. Self awareness and analysis will be your best friends as you're sitting at the tables. They'll pay for themselves a whole lot more than any Poker Tracker HUD that's for sure. ;-)

After all, spiritual and mental wealth are worth infinitely more than any amounts of money right?? :D

I used to have an opportunity to play slot machines and I lost a lot of money, but then in our country they banned slot machines and I started playing poker and I like this game and I try to play more freerolls to raise the bankroll for free and not to spend your money!

I have never had a gambling addiction. Although I play poker, sometimes I bet on sports events, but this does not affect my mental state at all. I just enjoy the game. I believe that people who are dependent on gambling are weak, unstressed individuals. And I am sorry for such people.

Ukraine banned slot machines? If so that is smart I wish my country did the same although I never had issues with them but for the sake of other people!

Judging by my brain development - I can not and do not want to give the money in the someone else's pocket. If I ever play a game of betting or sports, my wife will kill me slowly and painfully. I currently love life and my wife. I am against gambling with any casino and bookmakers.

how are you friend, the games of chance always have to take them with much prudence almost always make the mistake of betting what we do not have. very careful with that, I know many who were left in the street for not controlling the limits of bets .. greetings ...
