This really frustrated me tonight......

This is kinda funny but man i was getting the shits.... had a few friends over this arvo to have a few beers and just played some cards....now i'm the only one that plays semi seriously and has fundamentals down pretty well and consistently winning live and online at low limit. Now we are playing 4 handed and 2 of the 3 others basically bet and call to the river every hand they get involved in often with nothing. Now usually when it's shorthanded in sit'n'go's or cash games , i try be the aggressor and take control of the game, but today i could'nt and i found them stealing a lot of pots cause i could'nt get any read on what they had cause of all the betting and calling down....got me on tilt in a semi-muckaround game lol...i'm competitive ok.....single child thing i think...don't like losing...don't play well with others ha......strategy wise whats the best play just tighten right up and let them steal small pots(stealing pots by raising me when my second top pair would have been good, to find they have nothing...being smartasses showing me lol) and be patient??.....ended up busting out by trying to be more aggressive and coming over the top....this did'nt work, i was pissed about losing to 3 people who don't know how to play really....is tightening right up the only play?

When your playing inexperienced players you must realize its not the same as playing at a table with good players. You can't play the same as you normally would in other circumstances because when dealing with inexperienced players alot of times they don't know any better than to call down to the river and see if they get lucky. Why would you bluff someone that doesn't know he's beat? So under these conditions you must stop playing the people and start playing the cards. Make sure your playing decent starting hands and don't be afraid to fold. Sometimes the best player lays down the best hand.

I would never lay down the best hand If i knew I had the best hand possible. most people laugh some smile some stay straight and never bet play tight until you find the words to say to them in order to get a reaction with begginers its usually the laugh the smirk the smile. Play tight patient if you can't read them by their actions after an hour or so keep your money. But begginers like myself usually dont know what we do to give our hand away. O.K. with that said find their reactions ( to good, strong, bad hands) then play them they should react the same way they did every hand. Hope I helped but hey I'm still a beginner myself.

I didn't say lay down the nuts. "I said sometimes the best player lays down the best hand" -which means sometimes you might think you have your opponent beat, but he might make a bet that takes away your pot odds and makes it impossible to call

Look @ it this way your skills are wasted on these ppl. as the don't know any better yet, so yes tighten up and lay the smack down with your nuts

Basic rules for experienced player to play against newbies that I try to use:
1) play only good starting hands (they don't know what these even are).
2) Don't get fancy...bluff,check/raise,semibluff,steal blinds,positional betting. They don't understand the meaning of these moves. You can try, but still expect to get called.
3) Bet only if you have it.
4) You can control the hands by betting first, most newbies will just call and not reraise. Nice for drawing hand, you can keep pot odds there. Ultra aggressive tables with lots of reraises, I will usually just be a calling station with newbies.
5) Expect to get sucked out sometimes since they will play A anything and K anything, just because of the top card. They will call down 2nd or 3rd best pair and hit 2 pair on the river etc.
6)Don't expect to dominate let alone win. It will turn into slot machine poker and will be determined by who gets more lucky. You increase your chances of winning by playing top starting hands but still no guarantee they will hold up.

i do believe that all said here was very good advice so play your good hands and dont be a scared to fold it takes a lot of patence which is good to have anyway be patient

In saying all this......being that its a four handed handed game and i don't want my chips getting binded away....u cant sit there waiting for premium starting hands.....so what do you do as far as drawing hands (eg 67s or JTo)....do you throw the concept of position away cause the other players don't know any better? Where would you draw the line as far as whats playable and whats not?
