Never played poker in a casino but one New Years Eve I played drunk with £100 just after midnight, within
5 mins I had built it up to £600 and 5 mins later I had lost the lot including the £100 I started with. so £600 is
the most I have ever had in front of me at a poker table if not a cash table.

I don't play cash games, or rather, I play very rarely. I've lost too much money. But the biggest pot on the table that I remember was about $180.

I've sat with between $480 and $540 a few times when I used to go to the casino to play live cash games. It's not a lot of money but it was a double up and a few smaller pots won in our $1/$2 Game so I was happy.

I think a cool question is how many Big Blinds have you sat with, anyone can buy in for the table max, but it takes skill to stack well beyond that consistently!

I play for nickels and #imes now but in 2000 I played 1/2 nl online I won a $1200 pot. 3 hands later I lost $1400. I had the nut str8 on the turn and I lost to a boat on the river. That was the last 1/2 game I played online.

Not a lot, less than a grand, but I have never played for massive stakes. You'll find players with insane amounts on YouTube.

To be honest, I don't even remember that I ever lost more than 10 dollars. And that money wasn't mine. Because I got it from a freeroll.

People who can afford to play for those stakes should do something more productive than play poker.

Personally I've had the following:

Before my casino add a poker room I played blackjack. Ran my starting $500 it up to 10k+. Once in a lifetime heater where I only lost between only 7-12 hands over an afternoon. Casino used an 8 deck shoe back then. Walked away with 10k.

Then once my casino added a poker room. Started playing 1/2 bought in for the max $200. Ran that $200 up to $1200 playing 1/2. Then switch to 2/5 buying in for the max again. Ran that up too 7k+. Walked away with a total of 8k.

Online playing 50nl back when I first started. Bought in for the max $50 and ran that up too $800+. Left table with $800.

Cheers!!!

Gives me old school and old time vibes here. Back to when sponsored players and pro's at pokerstars use to come down, hang-out and play with us rec/hobby players at 2nl, 5nl and 10nl sometimes. Don't know if it was in their contracts or not but many did it anyway. Some of them weekly. Of course it the stakes never got near this it was pretty cool to sit, chat, play and carry on with the sponsored pros. Most of which surprisingly took it pretty serious and didn't play us soft despite the stakes being for pennies too them. A lot of them were also pretty nice, humble and came a crossed as avg guys and girls. As I recall Joe Hackem was the only one that was and came a crossed as a complete dick to everyone. What a jackass. Always gotta be 1 in every group I guess.

Nice work there @Jean-Guy. Bet felt pretty amazing after that session.

Cheers!!!

Well, I think the jury is still out on this. On one side I partly agree and do not play poker for a living - rarely more than NL1000 these days. But if we extrapolate on your opinion you are basically saying that the real high stakes players - like Negreanu and Ivey - should refrain from playing poker. And then there is the question of productivity. Should rich people not be able to speculate and make money on stock trading? Where is the productivity in that line of work? Or daytrading. For further reflection on this topic I can recommend a book written by a friend of mine. Ole Bjerg: Poker - The Parody of Capitalism (Michigan University Press.)

Thanks. That is one to remember for sure. As far as I know some of the sponsored players were obligated to participate in the leading poker communities. I am under the impression that players as a whole liked this. These days the poker world has changed. Only a few sponsored players today - and a certain fatigue in sharing their experiences in poker forums, let alone participating in charity events.

Well that's easy to say and at face value I'd agree somewhat. Fact is people are better off doing something they enjoy for a living. Personally I can't see how anyone can enjoy playing poker for a living and I'm likely part of the low % of people who could have if that was the path I choose 20+ years ago. It wasn't for many reasons none were because I thought I should do something more productive. For me it basically came down to what I enjoyed doing, $$$$ and something respectful. What/something I enjoyed was far and away the most important thing. Life's to short to not enjoy what you do for a living.

Cheers!!!

Yeah kinda figured it was to a certain extent. Some of them thou really seemed to enjoy it back then as they came around why more then I'm sure their contract said they need to. As a few of them showed up every week for months on end. Understandable that'd get old after awhile and over the years and besides the poker landscape has changed a lot since then. Was pretty sweet while it lasted thou.

Cheers!!!

Yes, I won. As for the tournaments, I won a good amount of money, the most of which was $1,150 in the Mamounia Casino. Participation was free, the rebuy was $10, and the add-on was $50. Fortunately, I did not do any rebuy. I only used an add-on to double my chips, especially to confront reckless players who participate during the add-on. Yes, it was a good day and I won first place.
As for the cash table, the largest amount I won was about $800, but this time I was playing with my friends at home. It was a strong and turbulent competition as we agreed that the winner could not leave as long as the loser wanted to continue. It was a long night that lasted until 10 in the morning. This victory was difficult and included some verbal quarrels.
I think that playing in a casino or online is safer and more convenient than playing at home with friends, especially if you do not know someone's personality and morals.

Quite the run up. Honestly back to playing on Bovada/ignition some 25 an 50NL, i think this kind of run up is probably possible lol.

I remember those days. I remember on Full Tilt playing with Chris "Jesus" Ferguson to my left lol.
