$1/$2 game local casino. TAG image at the table. I'm on the button. New player to my left bought in for table max. LAG poor player who kept re-buying raised pre-flop to $12. Got three callers in front of me (I had K2 of hearts) and new player also called. Flop is KK8 with two diamonds. Checks around to me and I bet $50 into the $60 pot. New player calls and LAG shoves for $180. I simply call his bet, feeling strongly I'm way ahead but new player shoves for an additional $110. I've been studying David Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker" and feel very certain that the new player also has a king and is not semi-bluffing with the diamond draw. With my K2, I feel I am then dominated and fold, showing the king (as they are both all-in). New player turns up AK rainbow (no diamond). I think to myself, "great fold" until the turn is a deuce...but the river is also a deuce - so we would have chopped. I still think I did the right thing, feeling so strongly I was behind on the flop. I do realize I had $192 invested and only needed to call another $110. Thoughts??

David Sklansky is eternal. His book will never get old. I think you should’ve called it. You are basically risking 100 BB to win 300 BB when you hit, give or take it.

These spots are so dark and brooding, in hindsight at least. This is one of my problems as well. Glad you made this thread.
Every time this happens to me, I tell myself I'm going to call the next time this situation arises, then I do and it goes to sh!t.
In this case I would've called, mainly because of the shove which usually means their hand is still vulnerable which it was. You both share top pair which means your kicker is probably live.
Also, you can always reload if it goes south on you. Great thing about cash-games. (y)

I also have a book by David Sklansky. I read it many years ago and forgot some useful things.
You could not participate in the multipot and fold the cards on the preflop. Flash and something better is the main goal. Your 83% bet on the KK 9 flop and the rest of the actions led to the growth of a large pot.
If you feel that the opponent is far ahead. Your thinking indicates that the villain has a better hand. Then the fold is correct. No matter which card comes next. I just want to say, pot control could help here. You wouldn't give up if you saw the turn card.

Hello friend, for me you should have called, because most of the time in the same situation you will win more times, because you are blocking the K, and sometimes new players even with a couple of pockets go all-in.
