The bankroll jump from 10nl to 25nl

I work full time and play the pokers on the side as a hobby.

Pretty much anyone playing poker though ultimately wants to win and "make money" whilst enjoying the game.

For some time now i've played at 5nl and 10nl, however over the past few months my game to go to has been the Hyper HUSNGs. Due to wanting more action and generally needing a change.

My attitude and interest towards poker (the micros and limits im playing) has drifted away, mainly because of how small the stakes are AND how many regs/grinders there are, even at 5nl and 10nl??

Minmium wage here in the UK is £6.50/hr ($10). When you compare that to 5BB/100 and 5%ROI at $1.50 and $3.50 Hyper HUSNGs (good win rates) the gap is so monumentally big, it's just making me think sometimes, why bother!?

I need to change something to get my passion back. I did calculations, and 6 tabling 25nl (5BB/100, borderline crushing) and playing the $7 hypers ($700 BR needed) is only basically the minimum stakes that I see to be attractive (thats playing around 20 hours a week).

However the bankroll needed for 25 is so much more than 10, you're talking £400 instead of like £160.

Is a big, serious deposit needed to achieve anything worthwhile (winnings $ wise) at the micros in a country like the UK?

At the moment its looking that way. Or luckily binking a tourney...

Any insight or support is welcomed.

I'm a serious recreational player in the UK and I think you can make a nice side income from poker relatively easily without having to have £1000's tied up.

I have part time job, I play poker approximately 15 hours per week (would be more but I do a little coaching too).

If you play poker alongside a day job, the need for a large roll to play up t $50nl is reduced significantly (assuming you're willing to move up and down to avoid mental game trauma).

You could easily get by playing $50nl off a $1k roll as long as you were prepared to move to $25nl any time your roll dropped <$750.

I don't know where you're playing now but sites like unibet, or Sky are plenty soft for someone without hugely pressing volume requirements and you can make £8+ph on Unibet just 4 tabling €50nl.

I have helped numerous recreational players turn their hobby into an income stream and the easiest way to do it, is the old fashioned way. Lower volume/softer games ABC style poker.

It's not particularly fashionable but it's still and probably always will be mighty effective.

I will have to disagree with regitime on the br. 1k br for 50nl is not enough. Not even close to enough. It is only 20bis. And move down to 25nl when you drop to 750? Thats like a 5 buyins downswing , which is nothing and very possible to happen from time to time. 1k for 25nl is ok since it s 40bis. Stars has a lot of regs and some good players at those limits so considering playing on a site where the games are easier is a good idea. Good luck to both of you anyways!

Br management has always been something I've been aggro with and generally not taken seriously enough at the micros. Mainly because I'm confident I can beat the limits but also because it's not the end of the world depositing more, as the actual loss in £ isn't big. If I were to play 25 or further, 50nl I'd definitely want 25bi at least, so I agree with you.

The software on unibet looks garbage and I'm not loving playing on sites where the traffic is low, so I'm yet to decide what I'm doing. Today I logged into Full tilt and ran $0 into $30 in just over an hour 😂. (More evidence of my BRM)!

Stars is full to the rim with regs.
Even as low as 5nl, the majority of players only 3bet QQ+ and AK. And only put money in with nutted hands.
Counter this by playing looser and you end up out levelling yourself, by thinking the nit is adjusting vs you, however in reality he's still only putting money in with the nuts.
Basically makes for a really boring game most of the time.

I would have to disagree with you as far as actually any advice Regitime is giving. He is a Micro Stakes Specialist and Coach and has an excellent income stream on top of his job.

The 20BB concept is Aggressive but doable and most importantly is also helpful in keeping one challenged(assuming one is a Winning Player) by taking shots at the next level instead of feeling bored and Bankroll stuck in the previous one(s). I know that for me this piece of advice has added more excitement for me personally in my Bankroll/Poker Challenge for myself.

Some MAJOR points that Reggie stress's are also "Table" and "Site" selection.

Why play poker stars if you can play Sky or 888 with a softer Player base?
Softer Site + Seat Selection = Mopping up

I WISH I had those options as I am a USA Player so essentially I am in "Poker Syberia."

Look at his Stats and how much Money he is making with Poker besides his regular Job.

I am not doubting r is a good coach or whatever but regardless I don't think you should just treat his word as gospel. Just look at standard deviation chart. 20 buy in is suicide. Take it from me

I believe the bankroll manangement is all down to the player. I have always been very conservative as i struggle when people deliver badbeats and have been known to tilt off a stack or 5 so generally for me i have a $1.5k roll for playing 25NL so that is 60 stacks. Think Volume is the most important thing in my eyes. You can't beat experience on the table

20 buyins is the absolute minimum at any stake but that is only if you are a really good player.

In general I'd say at least 40-50 and move back down when your shots are successful

I believe if you can refill your bankroll and your not restricted.

You know all the concepts or most of and feel confident in your game.

You can take a giant leap into the higher games with 20BI and see how you fair? I mean really have a bit of fun and reload if you fail and learn where you went wrong until you crush that level. One way or another you have to take the plunge and learn more?
