I sat down at a 1c/2c full ring table with $2. Im normally a tournament player. anyway first hand the big stack shoved for 150bb preflop. I called with AKs, he had AA and held. was this the right call for me?

Being it was the first hand at that table and you usually play tournaments what would you have done if it was a tournament? I think the same would apply to ring table. Personally I would throw the hand away and get the feel of the table, I'm definately no pro so dont take this as a golden rule. :)

Did he just open shove his full stack. If it's the first hand you've seen then it's a snap call. Lots of fish open shove very wide when tilted. Just got unlucky you ran into AA

yeah he just shoved. I figured he had a pair of some type and maybe it was a flip. i would have snapcalled in a tournament as well.

As I have specified in other contexts, when to go all in, if not when you have the big pairs. I think you did the right thing, only luck mattered here.

He could be tilted and have A7o or J6o too, so it's easily a profitable call

Observing the table for a while before calling an allin with AK is my preferred approach. If I have AA or KK I will call an allin preflop no matter what.

The shoving with AA shows that the big stack is a total donk. He made a bigger mistake than you. However, it’s not a good idea to go all-in preflop with big slick in cash games.
