Flopped the nuts... small bet because he probably doesn't have anything, especially not the case King. Board is drawless.

OK there's a flush draw on, but only a 1 in 20 chance he has 2 clubs, and a 1 in 5 chance it'll hit on the river. I still have the nuts... trying to keep him in.

Don't like it, you haven't guarded against the flush at all.

Fair enough, you have a strong hand and there's only a small chance the flush will hit, but the pot was $13 before the flush hit, but afterwards you're committing $55! Looks to me like you're paying off his implied odds.

Of course he may not have it, but I'd have flat called the river after his check raise, however, if he doesn't have the A he may fold here regardless.

But what 2 clubs is villain calling the pre-flop raise and calling on the flop with? A5s. Possibly even 56s. I think that's about it. All in all, the flush seems extraordinairily unlikely.

I really don't like it, simply because we're both so deepstacked we're opening the door for him to shove if he has a better hand, a shove which we will have to call.

Is our raise going to fold a better hand? No way. Are we going to get called by worse hands? Yeah, sometimes, 2 pair isn't unreasonable here. But are we so deepstacked that we're losing EV simply because on the occasions villain does have a big flush and shoves we're gonna have to call? Yep. Are we going to get shoved by worse hands? Very unlikely, but we will still have to call.

If villain only has another $25-30 in front when he raises the river the 3-bet shove is fine, but we're so deepstacked here I can't see how the river 3-bet can be a positive equity play in the long run without any specific reads on villain.

As an aside I like checking the flop here because villain is very unlikely to have hit anything on that flop, and may lead the turn (whether he hits anything on the turn or not), at which point we can obviously raise.

I think he probably calls my re-raise with a set or maybe even KQ, so there may be some value in it.

If he pushes then it's a very tricky decision... another $65 to me. Without a read to say he's particularly laggish (he's not) I hope I'd be able to fold it.

What can I say except that this is once again proof that even the worst players get lucky sometimes?
He calls PF with trash.
He calls Flop with bottom pair and a runner-runner draw.
Horrible.

The only thing I would have changed in your play is to bet harder at the turn (over 1/2 pot) to give any flush draw bad odds to call. But given what this guy was chasing with, I'm fairly certain he would have called no matter what you did, short of all-in.

Reminds me of a hand last night - I flopped the set of kings, with AcKs9c on the board. I pushed all in (I was short stacked, and my push was about the same size as the pot). Everyone folded around, and when I flipped them for the disbelieving spectators, one of the other players called it a bad play. I still believe it was right, though - you have to shut out the flushes (and in my case, straights too) if they've got a good look - better to win the small pot than lose the big one.

Short stacked, all in is the best move you can make there with trip K's. It's safe, and can easily be a very profitable move too if someone thinks you're stealing ;-)

For once, I actually had a fairly tight image at the table (except for one of my cash-game buddies who managed to make it into the last 18 also, who knew me better), so I wasn't suprised at the fold around. I think I was 15th out of 17 left in terms of chips, so I was happy to almost double up without the drama of someone calling me.
