Okay, every so often, I see these types of plays at micro stakes, and I feel compelled to post this one. I'm puzzled by the villain's play here on the flop. Pre-flop action was pretty standard. He's got position on me so I want to utilize pot control, of course that got thrown to the wind on his first action after I checked.

It's Zoom so I don't have any prior history/reads against villain. My first thought was that it was a tilt shove, that the play made no sense. If villain was playing beyond Level 1, they would make this play expecting me to think that what they were doing made no sense and wants a call, but I didn't give him credit for that.

What are your thoughts? Do you find a fold here?

It's either them trapping with a big hand (meaning they flatted pre with QQ+) hoping you caught some piece and will call, or middle / bottom pair / air just being stupid. Usually it's the later, but sometimes it's the first. You just don't know with zoom, but for $3 and some equity, I'd call.

This for me is actually a fold. I think they show up more frequently with nut type hands than spazzing out with bottom pair hands.

John, can you clarify this last sentence? While $3 in the grand scheme of things is not a lot of money, we don't make our determination based on that ever. We have to look at the context of the pot size, right?

How often do I have to be right here to make this a winning play? (Other questions that come to mind: Why is this player shoving into such a dry board? Why did pre-flop raiser check the dry flop?)

Mainly, the guy is spazzing here. If he has the best hand, why make this move? If he has nothing, why shove so much? None of it makes sense. And while I think it's possible he's got nothing, I think it skews (even if just a bit) towards players with something big that are hoping you will spazz and call.

For such a large percentage of my stack, when I don't have the nuts, the second nuts, or even the third nuts (him having a set here is very likely given his call PF), I'm folding here all the time (with no knowledge of this player) and saving my money for a better spot.

I'm putting him on QQ+ as well, hoping to get a call from a hand like the one you have. You see this with people limping AA and shoving on King high boards, or KK limping and open shoving on Queen high boards.

Did you call putting him on J10 or 10 10?
