The board is very heavy. If you want to bluff, the best time to do so is OTF, and of course, continue that line on the turn and river. OTT and OTR streets are very neutrals, and from that moment on (the turn), V's perceived range from you doesn't change much. And as played, OTR V is in bluff catcher mode.

Terribly played hand by villain but somehow he got the max! I like the bluff but would have raised turn (or flop).

I tend not to bluff against dudes with 42 VPIP unless I 1) have seen him fold in similar situations before, and 2) never seen him call down with mediocre hands.

That seemed like a frustration/"pot committed" call from him. Yes, terrible call, but you have to take into account the type of player he is.

Until an opponent proves otherwise, at 10NL I usually assume a player I don't know will call down light, so I don't bluff him in big pots until I am reasonably confident enough that he's observant or competent enough to fold.

What's his AF and WTSD %?

(The silver lining is, you can mark this guy and get him the next time. Now that he's seen you bluff the river, hopefully in the future he will assume you are still bluffing.)
