It's very difficult for people to give advice on such a topic as the causes and effects of various addictions differ from person to person. The only definite commonality is that it's the release of dopamine and or serotonin in your brain that the body craves. But the reasons for getting to that level of dependency vary.
I spent a month in a rehabilitation facility about 5 years ago. I was the little kitten there cos I couldn't stop spending all my money on weed. I had just become a father, so that was unacceptable. But anyways, whilst I was there I found great insights into how the different substance / activity abuses affected people's lives and those of the people around them. I have to say, hands down, gambling addiction won the pot (couldn't help it
). Especially when it came to the anguish of their families. I think because it's easier to lie to yourself and others about as it has no visual signs or physical health symptoms.
What I'm trying to say is, please don't underestimate gambling addiction. It's a nasty beast, especially if your reason for 'chasing the buzz' is because of some traumatic event(s) / childhood, as the need to escape from your own mind is the main cause for a relapse into addiction.
If that's not the case and you simply got caught up in the maelstrom by diving in with your guard down. Then just make sure you have your wits about you at all times whenever you're reentering the lion's den. Keep reading your literature and keep the lines open with whoever it was that you sought help from initially. Self awareness and analysis will be your best friends as you're sitting at the tables. They'll pay for themselves a whole lot more than any Poker Tracker HUD that's for sure. ;-)
After all, spiritual and mental wealth are worth infinitely more than any amounts of money right??
