The Women in Poker Hall of Fame released the names of the eight players and industry members who were nominated by the public and made the shortlist for this year’s class.
“This list of women are heavy hitters in the industry and deserve a nod for their hard work and accomplishments in poker,” WiPHOF wrote in announcing the list. “Close to 50 amazing women were nominated for consideration and after a lot of review, discussion and thought, the ballot has been set with eight fantastic women who are all worthy of a place in the hall.”
And those women are: Kristen Foxen, Liv Boeree, Jeanne David, Jamie Kerstetter, Kara Scott, Rebecca McAdam Willetts, Annette Obrestad and Jennifer Shahade.
Kristen Bicknell Foxen
Foxen is arguably the best female poker player now working. A professional since at least 2011, she owns four World Series of Poker bracelets and nearly $9 million in tournament winnings, only behind last year’s inductee Vanessa Selbst on the women’s all-time list. She nearly made this year’s final table of the WSOP Main Event, finishing 13th.
Liv Boeree
A European Poker Tour champion, Boeree is not only a player, but a poker podcaster and broadcaster. She also has one WSOP bracelet, and sits at nearly $4 million in tournament winnings.
Jeanne David
As the head of responsible gaming for PokerStars until she retired in 2021, David helped promote online poker through legislative work around the United States and Europe.
Jamie Kerstetter
A poker commentator and podcaster, Kerstetter is a two-time winner of the Best Twitter Personality award at the Global Poker Award, which is voted by fans. She came as close as possible to winning the WSOP Ladies Championship this year, finishing in second.
Kara Scott
Another popular poker commentator, writer, and personality, Scott announced action on many poker broadcasts, including the WSOP, the European Poker Tour, and High Stakes Poker.
Rebecca McAdam Willetts
An online poker industry insider and reporter, Willets worked as PokerStars director of partnerships, public relations, and consumer engagement, with a focus on engaging women in poker.
Annette Obrestad
Obrestad, who played online as “Annette_15,” exploded on the poker scene when she won the very first WSOP Europe Main Event in London at the age of 18. She built her chops online as teenager, turning a small sign-up bonus into literally millions of dollars. Besides poker, she also is a competitive Scrabble player.
Jennifer Shahade
A poker writer as well as a player, Shahade is also a two-time U.S. Women’s Chess champion with five books on the subject. She works to encourage more women to play poker and chess through her podcasts and articles that have appeared in major publications around the world.
Voting has begun, and will continue until Oct. 30. The living Hall Members and the eight media and industry-member voting panel has 10 votes total. They may cast them all for one candidate, or split their votes among several candidates.
Those who make it in will be inducted Dec. 11, in Las Vegas.
