Over and over, CardsChat has warned its readers and forum members that it’s a very bad idea to play high-stakes Pot Limit Omaha with players who grew up in Finland. Samuli Sipila again proved our point by becoming the 2024 PokerGO Tour PLO Series overall champion — and he had to beat another Finn to do it.
He won the $10,000 PGT Passport bonus by cashing four times: He won two events, bagged a runner-up, and also had a seventh place finish for a series total of $1,015,140.

His 749 points earned during the PGT PLO Series that took place at PokerGo’s studios at the Aria in Las Vegas was 184 better than runner-up Eelis Parssinen, who (you guessed it), is also a Finnish PLO Omaha expert who also won twice and cashed four times in the series.
Sipila’s second-place finish in the $25,200 championship event gave him his largest lifetime cash and locked up the Player of the Series prize. If he continues his trajectory, he’ll soon pass the $2 million mark. He’s still searching for a World Series of Poker bracelet, but has a handful of championships under his belt, including a win in the A$2,500 PLO championship at the 2017 Aussie Millions.
Six of his eight wins listed on the Hendon Mob were in PLO events. He came close to winning a high-stakes PLO tournament on the PGT, most recently in May 2022 during a stop in Italy where he finished second. He lost to Finnish (what a shock!) player Aku Joentausta in a €15,300 event that only attracted 7 entries. He also was the runner-up in a €10,200 no-limit event that brought in 13 entries.
He had to beat another master of PLO to win his first series honor. Parssinen owns one WSOP bracelet, which he won in the $5,000 no limit/PLO event in 2021 for a career-best $545,616. He also won the $25,500 super high roller event in the 2020 Poker Masters Online Pot Limit Omaha Series for $440,000. His success at the PGT PLO Series pushed him past the $4.5 million lifetime mark, and a vast majority of those cashes came in PLO events.
The 2024 PGT season continues with the U.S. Poker Open April 8-17. The series has eight events and buy-ins range from $5,100 to $25,200 and can be viewed on the subscription-based PokerGO.
