As the Triton Poker Super High Roller series in Monte Carlo began its final tournament, something seemed amiss: Jason Koon had yet to win an event. In fact, 11 events had gone by at the Salle des Etoiles at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club and he hadn’t even made a final table, even though he said he was playing as well as ever.
“Every night I go home and I study my play and I think I played the best I’ve played in a couple of years,” Koon told a Triton reporter. “It’s bizarre to get wiped out (while) playing really well.”
Going into the Series’ closer, a $26,000 Pot Limit Omaha turbo event that saw 35 entries (15 rebuys), Koon was looking at his streak of winning at least one Triton event per stop in 2023 to be broken. He even won two events in two different cities twice. In Cyprus in May, he won a $20,000 event for $663,000 about a week before winning $2.4 million in the $100,000 Main Event.
At the very next Triton Super High Roller stop in London, he won the $63,000 short deck contest for $828,000 only a week after winning $1.57 million for taking down a $63,000 7-handed event.

With more than $26 million in cashes coming on the Triton tour, Koon has made the series that attracts the world’s biggest whales his own personal gold mine. That accounts for more than half his tournament haul. He did it again this weekend, winning his record-expanding 10th title and another $365,000 on the tour.
“I’m going to go home, get myself in shape, and hang out with my family,” Koon said after the one-day event was over.
Phil Ivey and Dany Wang are closest to Koon with five Triton titles each. Wang won his fifth title in Monaco, and if there was an award for Player of the Series, Wang would have won it after cashing five times for nearly $4.6 million (a victory, a runner-up, two thirds, and a sixth)..
Only the final table made the money in the $26,000 Pot Limit Omaha turbo closer. Laszlo Bujtas and Sam Greenwood were also looking to add to their Triton title collections, but Eelis Parssinen, Joao Vieira, Ren Lin, Tom-Aksel Bedell, Sergio Martinez, and Li Tong all were searching for their first.
They still are.
