In the month ahead, the World Poker Tour will head to Hollywood, Florida, for the $3,500 buy-in Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, yet another major event in the Sunshine State. Play kicks off on April 23, but the final table won’t conclude until May 18 clear across the country in Las Vegas.
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino played host to another WPT tournament earlier this year, the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, a $3,500 event that drew in a whopping 1,573 entries. Ilyas Muradi won that event, the first live major tournament since COVID-19, for $809,515.
Seminole’s next major event is sure to attract another massive field of tournament grinders, recreational players, and those hoping to become the next World Poker Tour champion.
About the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown was canceled due to COVID-19 in 2020. In 2019, James Carroll won the 1,360-player tournament for $715,175, his second World Poker Tour title. You can expect an equally large field this year, if not bigger, given how starved for tournament poker many players are after the past year.
Play begins on April 23 at the South Florida casino with the first of two Day 1 starting flights. Day 1B runs the following day, and then Day 2 kicks off on April 24. Play will resume daily until the final table is reached on April 27. At that point, the tournament will be paused for a few weeks, and the remaining six players will travel to Las Vegas to compete at the final table on May 18.
The final table will be filmed and broadcast on Fox Sports at an undetermined future date. The tournament permits players to reenter once per Day 1 starting flight. Players start with 40,000 tournament chips, and the blinds will increase every 60 minutes on Day 1 and 2, and then every 90 minutes starting on Day 3.
South Florida has been the tournament poker hotspot in 2021 with two World Poker Tour events hosted in the first four months of the year, and the BestBet Jacksonville Spring Series, which is currently running.
